And the alternative would be heavy government bloating

2018-12-04 20:27:05 UTC

I am becoming quite fond of a 1/2/3 vote

2018-12-04 20:27:33 UTC

Ranked voting?

2018-12-04 20:27:41 UTC

Yes

2018-12-04 20:28:13 UTC

Maybe, I just think we need to get rid of the federal government overrides.

2018-12-04 20:28:17 UTC

We have an issue here in BC where NDP and Liberals trade off dominance because voting for Cons/Greens/etc means that "the other side wins"

2018-12-04 20:29:00 UTC

So we'll get liberals making a dumb decision or 10 and then because nobody wants the NDP they'll get in the next 2 times as well. Once you hit fucks given spillover then the NDP gets a turn

2018-12-04 20:29:09 UTC

It's a really bad setup

2018-12-04 20:29:12 UTC

I think we'd get some DSA, and even some NSM members with that system though.

2018-12-04 20:29:18 UTC

ranked voting.

2018-12-04 20:30:06 UTC

Maybe. But is the honest solution to just shove that shit under the rug and pretend it isn't there?
Sunlight is the best disinfectant

2018-12-04 20:30:36 UTC

No the solution is to not give the government enough power that it matters.

2018-12-04 20:30:48 UTC

Oh I'd want that as well

2018-12-04 20:31:02 UTC

It's too late for that though.

2018-12-04 20:31:17 UTC

But to the extend that abusable power is necessarily within the purview of government, I'd like one that is a little more representative at the very least

2018-12-04 20:31:41 UTC

I am of the perception that gerrymandering would be a thing of the past if the US joined 10 electoral districts into 1 large district with ten seats.

2018-12-04 20:32:38 UTC

I'll worry about more representative government when we get our 4th and 5th amendment rights back.

2018-12-04 20:32:58 UTC

I'm not seeing how you keep regional representation intact, @4AM_critter 🐉

2018-12-04 20:33:34 UTC

@Dennafen bring back 2A proper while you're at it

2018-12-04 20:33:48 UTC

I'm okay with that too.

2018-12-04 20:34:17 UTC

Once you give the federal government power it's almost impossible to have them release it.

2018-12-04 20:34:30 UTC

I assume a region that would elect 1 seat would still manage to elect that seat. but they get help from other regions.

2018-12-04 20:35:04 UTC

I just think about California, where all those red areas are outnumbered by like 1 city

2018-12-04 20:35:45 UTC

that 1 city would no longer be able to rule over those red areas, since i think 4Am is suggesting more seats than before

2018-12-04 20:36:05 UTC

to allow more parties to get some power

2018-12-04 20:36:07 UTC

Right and how do you determine who gets those seats? Bulk votes, no?

2018-12-04 20:36:11 UTC

If we went by vote by county Trump's landslide would have been insane

2018-12-04 20:36:21 UTC

Senators shouldn't be voted on.

2018-12-04 20:36:27 UTC

That'd be nice.

2018-12-04 20:36:27 UTC

uhhhh

2018-12-04 20:36:33 UTC

why?

2018-12-04 20:36:44 UTC

They're not representatives of the people.

2018-12-04 20:36:54 UTC

They're representatives of the state.

2018-12-04 20:37:05 UTC

They're supposed to be reps of the states interests not the states.

2018-12-04 20:37:21 UTC

Kind of like the EU.

2018-12-04 20:37:21 UTC

By county CA went Trump, by county CT went Trump, by county NY went Trump

2018-12-04 20:37:43 UTC

i don't know about that

2018-12-04 20:38:01 UTC

What are the interests of the state?

2018-12-04 20:38:21 UTC

they are not strictly representatives of the state, they are representatives of the people in that state, but balanced against population.

2018-12-04 20:38:47 UTC

where as the house is a balance against the minority

2018-12-04 20:39:05 UTC

The interests of the states vs the interests of the people as a whole.
