90% of the labor people aren't fit for higher education,
They need simple jobs
so either give them a drill or a gun
Shorter work weeks
This whole conversation is something that should be happening as part of the national political dialogue. Instead we get "free healthcare, free university, free housing, free this, free that".
Thats because its more appealing
"free"
"You get another job" sounds awful compared to
"You get free housing and education"
thats why the Universal Basic Income is such a non-debate
people all talk about it
No one debates about the truth which is that its unsustainable
its all just wishful thinking to sway the guillible masses
Certainly even if necessary the conditions are way off from now
UBI can't work, but I think negative income tax is worth exploring.
dafuq is negative income tax?
Work is still required; it's just that your income is augmented.
so just higher wages?
Or cutting the tax you have to pay to SS?
Let's say that $35k is deemed subsistence income, and that you have a labor income of $25k. You would receive monthly tax credits totaling $10k.
Rather negative income would probably take for SS then givre you money from a different pool
SS is a different beast.
It shouldn't exist.
so subsidiaries?
Subsidies?
yes
I guess.
English not my 1st Language 😛
Is Federal government funding this?
Ideally this would be state level.
But I don't know if that would work.
Subsidies don't work, the netherlands have them,
The people become convinced they're entitled to the money, as a bonus
And then complain their regular income is too low, completely forgetting they're getting extra money already
I don't know if any of this would work.
Do you offer this to people who choose to live in expensive areas?
The subsistence level wouldn't really permit them to survive there, but sure.
This isn't meant to insulate people from bad decisions.
I don't know if this would work, but I think it would be a better solution than UBI or the free market forcing a return to feudalism.
free market wouldn't create feudalism
There's nothing about a free market that requires a middle class.
Well if they would be able to comfortably live somewhere cheaper at 25k what's to stop them from spending an extra 10k just to have a more expesive lifestyle, ie. Living in the city
you generate the middle class, by having more work than workers
The work is automated.
so companies are forced to pay more for the better people
