@Enki My chemistry class was similar, My teach forced us to use the old long form methods of getting the answer AND with no errors even if the answer ended up correct anyway. She would mark me wrong for using short cuts regardless of the answer. in high schooll

And cursive is useless now, but it didn't use to be. Cursive was replaced by typing
