One of the one's I got was my state's scholarship lottery one. That was just about 2.5k a semester but got dang the requirements were a joke. It was a minimum of something like 3.5 GPA and an 18 on the ACT. It's less now b/c surprise surprise when they're that low anyone can get that money.
a fucking 18 on the ACT?
wow
you could guess your way to that.
I got a 29 on the act and i felt like i did horribly
right?
After a year of struggling with my conscience, I told them I am quitting school and they should give my scholarship to someone who is more deserving than me.
Don't quote me on that, it was almost a decade ago. I'm looking up the stats now, but yeah. It was *low*
think i got like 30-32 range
probably 30
I wanted my college degree, but not at the expense of someone else.
Depends on how large the scholarship was
opted to look for schools that didn't really care about ACT/SAT scores
They gave me a 30K scholarship.
Oh wait! Not even a gpa minimum. "For High School seniors, the only requirement is a 19 on the ACT or ACT equivalent score (990 on SAT), FAFSA Required. "
There were many scholarships that went unclaimed by people at my school
If they give it to you they know you deserve it/can hack it at the school
they dont provide scholarships if they think youll flunk out
They gave it to me because I was disabled. Solo because of that.
Not because of my grade.
even grades are bs measurements. You are punished for pushing yourself, rewarded for underachieving.
Yes thats the reason for the scholarship specifically
But its because they think youll use it to its full potential
Because at the end of the day they are still paying the money to the school and they dont want to see it wasted
For example there was a scholarship for people who were literally from Iowa at my school
Went unclaimed in my department for my last two years
Why Iowa??
Probably because the school was in Iowa
University of Iowa to be exact
I'm surprised they're doing that. I thought that was the point of in-state vs. out-of-state tuition
had a feminist professor at my school i needed to take a class with. luckily it was a bs class so it didn't matter that she graded me lower because i was male.
and it was VERY clear she disliked men
Im so glad i got out when i did
heard new students had to take a diversity course
i've was on the wave of all this bs too. Starting with the banning of dodge-ball
Same, I graduated in '16 and there was talk of the school adding a Social Justice degree when I got out. It was a Baptist university btw
u got out in time
lol
