They didn't take in account my grades, which were 3.5 GPA.

2018-08-30 17:12:23 UTC

They ignored that and gave scholarship to me based on my disability.

2018-08-30 17:12:56 UTC

could have been worse, could have been because of your skin color

2018-08-30 17:13:09 UTC

It felt like I was cheating others who are more worthy than me.

2018-08-30 17:13:10 UTC

One of the one's I got was my state's scholarship lottery one. That was just about 2.5k a semester but got dang the requirements were a joke. It was a minimum of something like 3.5 GPA and an 18 on the ACT. It's less now b/c surprise surprise when they're that low anyone can get that money.

2018-08-30 17:13:48 UTC

a fucking 18 on the ACT?

2018-08-30 17:14:01 UTC

wow

2018-08-30 17:14:08 UTC

you could guess your way to that.

2018-08-30 17:14:09 UTC

I got a 29 on the act and i felt like i did horribly

2018-08-30 17:14:19 UTC

right?

2018-08-30 17:14:24 UTC

After a year of struggling with my conscience, I told them I am quitting school and they should give my scholarship to someone who is more deserving than me.

2018-08-30 17:14:24 UTC

Don't quote me on that, it was almost a decade ago. I'm looking up the stats now, but yeah. It was *low*

2018-08-30 17:14:28 UTC

think i got like 30-32 range

2018-08-30 17:14:43 UTC

probably 30

2018-08-30 17:15:04 UTC

I wanted my college degree, but not at the expense of someone else.

2018-08-30 17:15:16 UTC

Depends on how large the scholarship was

2018-08-30 17:15:16 UTC

opted to look for schools that didn't really care about ACT/SAT scores

2018-08-30 17:15:33 UTC

They gave me a 30K scholarship.

2018-08-30 17:15:35 UTC

Oh wait! Not even a gpa minimum. "For High School seniors, the only requirement is a 19 on the ACT or ACT equivalent score (990 on SAT), FAFSA Required. "

2018-08-30 17:15:38 UTC

There were many scholarships that went unclaimed by people at my school

2018-08-30 17:15:57 UTC

If they give it to you they know you deserve it/can hack it at the school

2018-08-30 17:16:05 UTC

they dont provide scholarships if they think youll flunk out

2018-08-30 17:16:24 UTC

They gave it to me because I was disabled. Solo because of that.

2018-08-30 17:16:26 UTC

That's what they should be imo

2018-08-30 17:16:26 UTC

Not because of my grade.

2018-08-30 17:17:28 UTC

even grades are bs measurements. You are punished for pushing yourself, rewarded for underachieving.

2018-08-30 17:17:48 UTC

Yes thats the reason for the scholarship specifically

2018-08-30 17:18:21 UTC

But its because they think youll use it to its full potential

2018-08-30 17:18:45 UTC

Because at the end of the day they are still paying the money to the school and they dont want to see it wasted

2018-08-30 17:19:10 UTC

For example there was a scholarship for people who were literally from Iowa at my school

2018-08-30 17:19:45 UTC

Went unclaimed in my department for my last two years

2018-08-30 17:19:54 UTC

Why Iowa??

2018-08-30 17:20:09 UTC

Probably because the school was in Iowa

2018-08-30 17:20:21 UTC

University of Iowa to be exact

2018-08-30 17:20:57 UTC

I'm surprised they're doing that. I thought that was the point of in-state vs. out-of-state tuition

2018-08-30 17:21:01 UTC

had a feminist professor at my school i needed to take a class with. luckily it was a bs class so it didn't matter that she graded me lower because i was male.

2018-08-30 17:21:09 UTC

and it was VERY clear she disliked men

2018-08-30 17:21:37 UTC

Im so glad i got out when i did

2018-08-30 17:21:49 UTC

heard new students had to take a diversity course

2018-08-30 17:22:09 UTC

i've was on the wave of all this bs too. Starting with the banning of dodge-ball
