How can the earth be flat if you can't look 100km to the opposite site of a sea?

2019-07-19 10:28:28 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

A box has 6 sides. If you believe that the earth has a periphery of 40,000 km at the equator, each of the 4 sides that are inline, is 10,000 km long. So that doesn't make any sense.

2019-07-19 13:17:50 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

So you mean that there wouldn't be (many) time zones most of the time? If that's what you mean, I agree.

2019-07-19 14:54:25 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

We can make proper triangles at a spheriod earth too, the only difference is the base line, which would go through the earth.

2019-07-19 14:59:40 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

No, the won't. Imagine a line on which you put a isosceles triangle (with the same angles at the bottom). Now imagine that the line curves, but the points of contact stay the same.

2019-07-19 15:03:42 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

That's right, I could explain it way better with a picture, but that isn't possible, right?

2019-07-19 15:15:20 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

In this case it's not Discord, I think we have to debate more to get the option to send pictures.

2019-07-19 15:19:41 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Definetely

2019-07-19 15:32:57 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

That's for sure, but that has more to do with the position of the sun than the shape of the earth.

2019-07-19 15:35:30 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Yeah, I forgot about that

2019-07-19 15:38:07 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I don't know to whom you're asking this questions?

2019-07-19 15:39:29 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Ah, allright

2019-07-19 15:40:48 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

So they think that a sun, larger than the earth (although not as large as the sun is, according to NASA) , is inside a type of atmosphere?

2019-07-19 15:46:18 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

But the sun (for 90% sure) can't be smaller than the earth. It would just have been burnt-out.

2019-07-19 15:47:31 UTC [The Ice Wall #lounge]

He did get a warning very quick, didn't he?

2019-07-19 17:22:28 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

In that case the sun can't have burnt for 6,000 or more years.

2019-07-19 17:28:44 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

So they didn't come up with an alternative way of how the sun must produce light?

2019-07-19 17:30:34 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

That's not very creative

2019-07-19 17:37:16 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Well, actually I was wrong with my 'sun must've burnt-out-theory' if the sun was only 35 kilometres. It appears to be the following: The larger a star is, the faster it burns up.

2019-07-19 17:38:12 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

However, a sun (according to the best-known theory) probably can't be 35 km in diameter and still be a sun.

2019-07-20 18:54:41 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Yes, but a glober too

2019-07-20 19:14:47 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I'm a bit bored by the fact that no flat earther joins the debate.

2019-07-22 07:09:38 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

What? May I not explain something in normal words?

2019-07-22 09:13:52 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

That's done to get every country at a 2d map

2019-07-22 09:14:48 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Of course, no country likes to be in an organisation that's excluding your being as a country by their logo

2019-07-22 09:15:21 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

No, but it's also done to not make any continent look more important than another.

2019-07-22 09:16:52 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

@PhumoZTYPE Flight stops are needed for making a long trip, and that doesn't makes more sense at a flat earth rather than at a globe.

2019-07-22 09:22:20 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Than we the better can learn you first to think logically instead of trying to convince you.

2019-07-22 09:24:07 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Because the arguments of flat earth are too easy to reject?

2019-07-22 09:25:42 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Where's Yeti if you need him?

2019-07-22 09:28:41 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Yeti is as squint as an naked mole rat...

2019-07-22 09:38:37 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

So the idea of humans being significant รญs Biblical?

2019-07-22 09:41:35 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

We are made as the crown of the universe, but that doesn't mean we're the absolute center.

2019-07-22 09:48:49 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I mean humans are the most considerable creations, but that doesn't mean that we have to be in the center of the universe, we could be on the edge too. (I don't think we are, because I trust NASA (at least in this case) on where we're located in th universe)

2019-07-22 09:53:58 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

It's not bad to not immediatly trust big companies, but come up with a good reason then.

2019-07-22 09:54:18 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I don't get convinced by such a minor detail

2019-07-22 09:58:39 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

If they're relevant, yes.

2019-07-22 10:24:18 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I don't know what you're trying to say with those words?

2019-07-22 10:28:17 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I'm sorry, but I'm no native speaker, so I don't understand 100 per cent of every sentence.

2019-07-22 10:34:55 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

That part isn't the most difficult, I particulary didn't understand the first sentence.

2019-07-22 10:40:03 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Ah, now I understand.

2019-07-22 10:42:13 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Well, a language coincidence isn't the strongest indication in my opinion.

2019-07-22 10:46:58 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I do

2019-07-22 10:51:59 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

If there was good evidence to proof that it was fake, then why didn't USSR blame the USA for lying and faking the moon landing?

2019-07-22 11:18:03 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

No, that's just another question, but I trust NASA with the moon landing for multiple reasons, here are some of them:
-At a certain moment, there were over 400.000 people working at the Apollo program. It took them 8 years and 100 billion dollars (converted to nowadays-worth).
-Hunderds of thousands of people have witnessed the launch and saw the rocket flying into space. (not on TV, but live)
-Live-TV: They couldn't fake the gravity by slowing the camera down, because the framerate would be too low. (there're some more arguments with the live broadcasting)
-Moon stone (They did bring back material from the moon.)
-They've placed a mirror on the surface, so we can measure the distance between the earth and the moon with the speed of light.

2019-07-25 10:11:24 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

It's quite harsh to blame someone for 9/11, do you guys have any evidence?

2019-08-02 20:30:41 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Rocket engines need oxygen to burn fuel. And because an engine needs so much oxygen that the surrounding air can't deliver that, they inject oxygen (stored as liquid) next to the engines.

2019-08-03 19:33:07 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

They believe antarctica is in a circle at the edge, so in their minds, the earth gets colder the further east or west you go.

2019-08-07 20:08:44 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Magma that comes out of the earth (via a volcano) is called "lava".

2019-08-10 20:20:07 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

Density is the amount of particles in a certain volume that affects the speed of certain things attracted by gravity.

2019-08-10 20:31:35 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

That's true

2019-08-10 20:33:11 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

And because it's believed to be caused by the mass of the earth, they've named it 'gravity'

2019-08-10 20:36:32 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

definetely, although as long as we don't know any better alternative, it's safe to say that this is the reason.
