Web dev is just something like the hidden circle of hell for me.

2018-11-15 00:09:16 UTC

it's so intimidating initially and due to the number of resources out there i just fucked about for a month jumping from tutorial to tutorial

2018-11-15 00:10:21 UTC

I also don't know anyone who enjoys web-dev. But if you want to do it.
1. Learn HTML
2. Learn CSS
3. Learn JS
4. Learn JQuery
5. Learn SQL
6. Learn your client server programing language tech. (I use Freemarker Templates and Java Servlets)
7. Learn AJAX

2018-11-15 00:10:25 UTC

Give me a sec.

2018-11-15 00:10:40 UTC

OK The two oldest semesters here have assignments, homeworks, lectures, exams etc...

2018-11-15 00:12:26 UTC

It goes into PHP towards the end

2018-11-15 00:12:35 UTC

dude i have so many friends coming straight outta uni claiming to know all of web dev, java, c++, php, ruby and all that shit but have no personal projects --- without personal projects you can't really put on ur cv you know a language right?

2018-11-15 00:12:36 UTC

but it covers most of what you need and has solutions to check with.

2018-11-15 00:12:48 UTC

Oh you can

2018-11-15 00:12:53 UTC

ye I can cook the less I need other the better

2018-11-15 00:12:54 UTC

But projects are better.

2018-11-15 00:13:31 UTC

Its like saying 'I can speak chinese' vs saying 'wo3 hui2 shuo1 han4yu3'

2018-11-15 00:13:48 UTC

There are two golden rules.

2018-11-15 00:13:54 UTC

1. Do

2018-11-15 00:14:00 UTC

2. Ask

2018-11-15 00:14:12 UTC

@JDB yea schools teach you good but they don't really have good projects in my experience. You gotta make your own projects

2018-11-15 00:14:19 UTC

1 = practice, try, fuck up and learn.

2018-11-15 00:14:46 UTC

2 = even if you have been doing this 30 years you will routinely look up the most basic shit. Get good at it.

2018-11-15 00:15:13 UTC

Just today I had to verify that JS for getting the text from an submitted input box was .value and not .innerHTML

2018-11-15 00:16:02 UTC

@shadowlessnexus i'm considering going to university to study computer science purely because the idea of following a set curriculum with like minded people seems appealing to me - yeah i found that too

2018-11-15 00:16:27 UTC

@Kragt r u a software engineer?

2018-11-15 00:16:42 UTC

I mean it's pretty good. Im in a small college cause it's cheaper. But you gotta do some stuff on your own
