linux is pretty old now

I started out with SlackWare

then RedHat, then Debian

so Debian was probably a few years into using Linux and I've stuck with it ever since

right, but you can use Debian derivatives like Ubuntu and they keep pretty up to date

a lot of Debian packages are basically backported from Ubuntu now

Debian itself is pretty solid and easy to deal with, very portable too because it doesn't have the "bloat" you get with Ubuntu

but generally I'm running Ubuntu on my desktops/notebooks, servers are a mix

Fedora/Red Hat are pretty solid in general - I can't stand CentOS though

I never used Unity, been a GNOME user since it first became usable. Was KDE before that and bascially whatever would run before that

every time I've used CentOS I've had weird issues
