Clickbaity title; Searched for the article on other sites and its popping upo n Townhall , Russia and Breitbart
I dont know i need a more concrete source before any large conclusion is drawn; very skeptical
Anyone have any good ebooks lately? Ive been on an audible kick and just finished Margaret Albright's "Fascism" - It was OK, had a pretty big bias though. I just finished a Communism readathon as well at the urging of an SJW friend to see if it would change my mind in anyway (balanced out equally by the usual capitalist literature, which was more of a refresher as I am heavily familiar with it) and well..my opinions were solidified against it again.
No stranger to Heinlein, huge scifi fan ๐
Ugh looking forward to the political environment of my school in a week
Ironically Indiana University is a beacon of of the radical far left in a sea of Bush-era conservatism
Which unfortunately, makes it stronger as they seem to thrive where they feel opposed
I mean Im in Computer Science which is generally a bit more "open" and less bulshitty
It does, but my school is still one of those schools where there are VERY few women in CS and we havent seen a lot of affirmative action in my area.
Esp since the CS program is so new.
And Im a woman (biological..shouldnt really have to say that lol, but welcome to 2018)
Ehh you definitely see it at out "Women in tech" clubs but those arent filled with Cybersecurity foci like me; they are moreso filled with "Informatics" majors -- Basically a BS name for frontend and none of the hard parts of CS; consulting
Eh they basically ..CS with out data structures and algs (SO NOT CS LOL) but with a business cognate so all of the classes that youd want for a business degree
Honestly even then; barely any women in those programs too that arent business
No lol; Computer Science with a focus in Cybersecurity (So basically cryptography, network penetration, encryption, a lot of other topics) to supplement the software engineering
But It **would** be interesting to write my own crypto for learning purposes someday ๐
And I most likely will as I need more cybersecurity specific projects on my github for internships
Yeah as I said since Im at IU its not **that** bad; and me being a heavy gender equality defender I dont get much ire within STEM circles at all
And since my school is heavy data science foci a lot of us know that the pay gap is BS.
But its like an island that sticks out a sea of **dumb**
Gender studies, lib arts and stuff slowly becoming more vocal
I should know, I was a music major (vocal perf, opera, cello performance) but dropped it because the culture is so fucking toxic
I have a poli sci major in my class who I ended up becoming friends with
BEcause he is more of an interesting case study in the most militant of SJWs
Could actually out-debate me and was willing to be rather open to debate
always failed when it came to logistics and interpretation
Like literally would just be like "Thats not relevant, next argument"
basically loldumb. But other than that extremely well spoken compared to most SJWs; a true outlier. Called me on some of my own fallacies and caused me to really have to start to read up on literature again
Some of the smarter ones legitimately try to blend
OFC immediately when we got into issues away from communism; it was the standard" the oppressed group can never become the oppressor"
Unfortunately they dismiss possibly the best counterexample to a lot of SJW arguments: True 20th century fascism a la Mussolini, pre WW2 Spain, and Nazism because it aggravates their feels. And you cant use an argument or example that could be possibly offensive to its victims; The problem with that is that it collapses inward becaue it would be offensive to the victims of those regimes to not use them as examples as the best way to never repeat the past is to educate people on what occurred and *why*. /rantend
REally fucking tempted as I hae one outlying A&H (Arts and Humanities) gened credit to take a gender studies course to just see exactly was BS is being taught. Im assuming it would be cultural marxism and 56 genders, the class.
^ Right. Cycle of Abuse.
Or Male rape victims are a good example, of which I know one personally.
Despite SJW efforts, my school is still a hotbed of sexual assault. Of course only the wamen matter; but even then my school lays low.
Nothing truly terrible in terms of Title 9 yet but men definitely have to be very careful, which of course, is fucked up.
Luckily Ive been with an amazing boyfriend for 4 years (and not looking to end that any time soon) and being in STEM I dont have time for sorority party bullshit.
However my single twin sister does, and its very interesting to see her perspective of the politics within those sphere..and just how identity politics has consumed them
@Deleted User Thats fucking brilliant Im saving that
Elementary ed major still wanting the independence of the 21st century but with all the benefits of traditional gender roles. So a living contradiction.
Love her from a familial standpoint but girl needs to lower her standards
So not an outspoken SJW. Pretty neutral eye beyond what she wants out of a partner..which of course, is everything
Whereas both my partner and I are like "BRING ON THE PRENUP!!"
I wouldnt say I grew up in a divorced home. My parents plodded on until my freshman year of college, and it was financial difficulties that largely sunk them, mostly on my Mom's side and her inability to deal with adult issues. Eventually she regressed and fucked over my dad in divorce court after being a SAHM and flight attendant for 20 years before that.
Only served to fuel my opposition to leftist bullshit.
Well...
We dont really speak; just because there is nothing of interest to talk about. She isnt interested in STEM and has a 40 year old Broadcast journalism degree.
Her parents are old guard and old money republicans who have no concept about how the world works, but she runs to them despite them condoning the abuse of her by her brothers while she was young. She is still largely a child of her parents, unable to make autonomous decisions. She just now passed her flight attendant training and is now a flight attendant again. The only difference is the massive alimony checque my dad will now pay UNTIL HE FUCKING DIES from their 25 years in marriage.
So due to this lack of respect, Im about as close to having burned the bridge bar playing the game to suckle tuition money (which is now court ordered anyway). Largely Im independent of her funding for that as well as I worked full time 2 semesters and put anything left over in a Roth IRA.
Also worked through all of HS so built up considerable savings there for college.
When some of those assets during the divorce were claimed by my mother I pursued litigation against her and ended up testifying multiple times against her in court
If alimony has to exist, I believe it should only be with heavy oversight and accountability to simply allow the other spouse to get back on their feet. Immediately ending upon employment and with the recipient having to submit proof of seeking employment.
My mother gets a ticket to retirement for 25 years lol
Its fucked up; part of the reason why Im pushing so hard in my field because Im hoping to be able to help my Dad retire
@Deleted User
Its Illinois. He got fucked HARD.
Percentage for each year of marriage adding up to 25 percent plus a 25 fixed amount so basically 50 percent of his networth. Great lawyer though who was able to roll it back. I am unsure of the final settlement but he is seeking to renegotiate it every year.
He wouldnt do that, plus I wouldnt want him to for his happiness.
My Dad has worked all his life from absolute poverty to be top in consulting/technology solutions and engineering for the auto industry.
Thats clever.
As I said he will probably emigrate in a year or two when Im out.
He is court ordered to pay 60 percent of my tuition with my mom as 40; I just bounce the money back to him as, as I said, I have savings.
I do admit I am in the 1% and extremely lucky to not have had to take on massive student debt but Id like to think a lot of that was because of my hard work in HS and busting my ass freelancing during the summers and doing Tier 1 and jr sysadmin IT.
Both of our parents definitely have issues, my Dad just has less and his issues only impacted his private life and marriage and NEVER spilt over into his childrens.
No; as in Im fairly certain 90 percent of students in this country are in some form of debt
my Dad doesnt, nor do I, earn in the American "1%". However I am definitely in the 1-10% of college students who does not have a single student loan on the books.
Same goes for my boyfriend. We are very fortunate but also meticulous planners.
My SO and I will always keep our finances seperate and we both trust eachother and split bills 50/50 (But largely we treat eachother a lot within our budgets so its probably skewed from that number some months my way some months his. Ive taken him out to eat a lot this month, for example) But largely it evens out.
We meticulously track our finances with YNAB/Mint. Pretty modest life and small apartment unlike my sister
