or deep thinkers
they weren't
only difference is that now, we live in an era of unprecedented democratization
which means that we get to truly see the banality of most ppl's existence
out in the open
same reason why our celebrities are shitheads and music is just ppl selling sex
extreme democritization
of taste
in the past, the nobles decided what was "tasteful"
ppl always assumed that social media would be an unwarranted goldmine of sorts
back in the early days
it would just be of ppl sharing ideas and books and what not
yeah, now we're back to different sections or factions
you can stay on twitter, youtube and follow certain intellectual peeps
I don't think its all that bad tho
this is just societal flux that happens right after a communication revolution
like, soon after the printing press and widespread availability of bibles
things actually became much worse
for a short period of time
ppl went around burning witches based on certain phrases, that which was previously ignored by priests
similarly, we're in a constant weekly witchunt
constant cycle of offense followed by apologoy and firing
soon, ppl would get tired of it
justs like the witchhunts of the past
or not..
because tech seems to keep disrupting
maybe we're at a stage of constant turbulence
just when we think the distruption of certain spheres by tech is settling
they're already coming up with the next ones
like what ?
news ?
i'm on twitter
I follow a very select group of people and publications
its good
nobody who "outrages"
@Vannevariable just avoid the mess
don't follow people who have zero nuance
and like to get social currency by outraging
or virtue signalling
@Furlong you Brazilian ?
nice
I love Bolsonaro
I know that most of what he says is political rhetoric
he can do a good job
I'm hoping for the best, tbh
I'm excited that he's pro-business
and open to privatizing many state entities
our elections are coming up in May
India
its good, we elected our right-wing populist in 2014
before there was even a term such as - right wing populist
they've done pretty well, imo
what access ?
not that I've heard of
except that companies like whatsapp have to keep their data in servers within the country
which is standard security measure
its also possible that whatsapp might co-operate with law enforcement
ok, I'll look into it
companies will always find a way around those regulations
Govt here has a hangover from their pre-90s socialist days
of overhanded regulations
I mean amazon and walmart
in any case, the most important problem for the future is land and labor laws reform
which can stimulate the manufacturing sector by making it easy to open up factories
providing millions of jobs
if we don't become the next China, we might implode
imagine all those young ppl with no jobs
recipe for disaster
when ppl's livelihoods are threatened, they panic and vote for socialist parties
or worse, communist parties
but so far, the general trend has been towards freer markets
lets see
@Stefan Payne where u from ?
its funny, ppl here are generally very optimistic
ppl in developed countries seem to be more depressed
maybe because you're already at the top and there's no way to go but down or stay the same
@GoldenPhoenix I love populists, tbh
lmao
Austria or Germany
lel
I feel developed generally means plateaued
developing means there's a lot of scope
for faster rate growth
@Stefan Payne chill mayne..
AfD is there
the more they clamp down, they more they're increasing support for right-wing populism
we have a state run by communist party
and I mean that literally
not hyperbolically
democratic communism
yeah, they have high unemployment rates
but also high literacy rates and other HDI indicators
yep, ppl are already looking towards Germany's Mittlestand model
Germs also give workers supervisory board seats
which keeps bloating executive pay in check
oof
what law
yep
crash is coming around 2020
basically during campaigning
lol what
!agree
does AIU have a server ?
