I think the idea of tolerating the presence of others and retaining the right to hold your own views is very different from being asked to "accept" something, which is to say to change your thinking. Acceptance should be your personal choice to make, not something mandated by others.

Respect should be expected, but acceptance should never be mandatory. But that's not good enough for the left
