And the conditions weren't present back then for anything of the sort to happen

2019-09-12 20:56:49 UTC

We still have to have a good safety net for them

2019-09-12 21:06:54 UTC

Job automation is another consideration for UBI

@Dr.Cosby Also, 10% VAT isn't that much. Remember, Europe pays 20% VAT

10% is nothing

Also, welfare has the problem that is causes people on welfare to fear finding a job (since they're scared that they'll be worse off by finding a job as that welfare will be taken)

2019-09-13 15:39:03 UTC

Right but UBI woudn't cut off because you got a job

2019-09-13 15:39:18 UTC

That would just create a resentment among the working class and ultimately fail

Why a resentment among the working class?

2019-09-13 23:31:57 UTC

Because if you're working and not even better off than somebody who isn't working, that would build resentment

2019-09-13 23:31:57 UTC

GG @Soup Can Sam, you just advanced to level 5!

2019-09-14 01:21:48 UTC

but if you're working hard, *you will be better off than them*

2019-09-14 01:22:05 UTC

also welfare is typically *less remuneration than even a minimum wage job*

2019-09-14 01:22:10 UTC

and that is *by design*

2019-09-14 01:22:17 UTC

to ensure incentives are aligned properly

2019-09-14 01:28:21 UTC

OK say you're getting 1000 a month from UBI but if you started a part time minimum wage job, and I'm talking a state with high minimum wage like maryland at 10.10 and lets be generous and say you get around 30 hours a week. You're working and only making about 212 dollars more a month than the person sitting on their ass doing nothing.

2019-09-14 01:30:52 UTC

Now if you apply that to the federal minimum wage you'd need to work at minimum wage almost full time in order to break a thousand a month

2019-09-14 01:31:16 UTC

To make the same amount of money as somebody literally doing nothing

2019-09-14 01:31:41 UTC

So you would continue giving out UBI to the person with the job to prevent that from happening

2019-09-14 03:34:15 UTC

i live in a country where the minimum wage is around $22/hr lmao

2019-09-14 03:34:24 UTC

and welfare is anywhere between $4-8/hr

2019-09-14 03:34:36 UTC

UBI wouldnt get us to $22/hr

2019-09-14 03:34:54 UTC

so in our case, the incentives are aligned properly

2019-09-14 03:35:00 UTC

but also

2019-09-14 03:35:07 UTC

i thought you meant *welfare* payments

2019-09-14 03:35:09 UTC

not UBI

2019-09-14 03:41:04 UTC

australia does not have a population of 330 million

2019-09-14 03:41:19 UTC

millions of illegals who take jobs for way less than the minimum wage are NOT going to australia

2019-09-14 03:41:31 UTC

well actually

2019-09-14 03:41:34 UTC

we had a boat problem

2019-09-14 03:41:40 UTC

people migrate to indonesia

2019-09-14 03:41:45 UTC

then come on boats to australia

2019-09-14 03:42:01 UTC

so yea we had a lot of immigrants who took low wage jobs

2019-09-14 03:42:08 UTC

idk about taking less than the min wage tho

2019-09-14 03:42:32 UTC

you dont have 1 million coming per year in caravans ready to storm your border

2019-09-14 03:42:39 UTC

dude its proportional

2019-09-14 03:42:42 UTC

you have 330 mill

2019-09-14 03:42:45 UTC

so 1 mill is nothing

2019-09-14 03:42:48 UTC

we have 25 mill

2019-09-14 03:42:55 UTC

neat

2019-09-14 03:42:55 UTC

GG @rorschach, you just advanced to level 12!

2019-09-14 03:43:15 UTC

so the equivalent is like 75k people

2019-09-14 03:43:20 UTC

which is what we were getting at one point

2019-09-14 03:43:33 UTC

whats this all about?

2019-09-14 03:43:37 UTC

the conservatives reduced it in recent years

2019-09-14 03:43:37 UTC

it's not proportional because a lot of those 1 million go to california, texas, and florida, putting strain on those states

2019-09-14 03:43:38 UTC

GG @Pathaw, you just advanced to level 5!

2019-09-14 03:43:49 UTC

you think that doesnt happen in australia?

2019-09-14 03:43:53 UTC

they all go to the cities

2019-09-14 03:43:59 UTC

and we dont have many cities

2019-09-14 03:44:07 UTC

you dont have 1 million though

2019-09-14 03:44:22 UTC

it was proportionally 1 million at one point

2019-09-14 03:44:23 UTC

so yes

2019-09-14 03:44:24 UTC

we did

2019-09-14 03:44:32 UTC

could you provide a source?

2019-09-14 03:44:33 UTC

pauline hanson or fraser anning should step in and kick them out if they are invading your cities

2019-09-14 03:44:49 UTC

fraser anning is gone lol

2019-09-14 03:44:53 UTC

oh wow

2019-09-14 03:45:47 UTC

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/513098339961798676/622276778387439627/unknown.png

2019-09-14 03:45:56 UTC

190k per year at peak

2019-09-14 03:46:10 UTC

so we got proportionally more immigrants than america did

2019-09-14 03:46:15 UTC

thank you

2019-09-14 03:46:17 UTC

oh

2019-09-14 03:46:18 UTC

i personally experienced the terrible effects of multiculturalism when i stepped foot into canada

2019-09-14 03:47:07 UTC

i was actually happy with it

2019-09-14 03:47:15 UTC

australian culture was so toxic

2019-09-14 03:47:27 UTC

whats wrong with it?

2019-09-14 03:47:28 UTC

i love asians but i dont want desert folks here

2019-09-14 03:47:28 UTC

and we didnt have enough variety in restaurants

2019-09-14 03:47:41 UTC

now we can eat cuisines from literally anywhere

2019-09-14 03:47:54 UTC

lol talk about washing your hands with sand

2019-09-14 03:48:02 UTC

thats impossible

2019-09-14 03:48:05 UTC

but ok

2019-09-14 03:48:14 UTC

i was joking lol '

2019-09-14 03:48:20 UTC

neat

2019-09-14 03:48:25 UTC

australian culture is many things:
tall poppy syndrome
ignorant
abusive
insecure

2019-09-14 03:48:44 UTC

you have to remember we came from convicts lmao

2019-09-14 03:48:45 UTC

and when you import iraq dont expect it to get any better

2019-09-14 03:49:11 UTC

the asians coming in pacified these elements

2019-09-14 03:49:18 UTC

the asians are great

2019-09-14 03:49:25 UTC

yeah

2019-09-14 03:50:16 UTC

it actually blows my mind that the perception of australia is "laid back, easy going"

2019-09-14 03:50:26 UTC

its such a mischaracterisation

2019-09-14 03:50:32 UTC

and i have no idea where it comes from

2019-09-14 03:50:39 UTC

sterotypes

2019-09-14 03:50:58 UTC

happens to just about every country

2019-09-14 03:51:00 UTC

theres lot of dumbness and plenty of stress in our culture

2019-09-14 03:51:09 UTC

and people resort to heavy drinking as a cure

2019-09-14 03:51:24 UTC

oh well

2019-09-14 03:51:41 UTC

australia should just shrivel up and die if it has those problems

2019-09-14 03:51:47 UTC

or elect pauline and fix them L

2019-09-14 03:51:57 UTC

pauline denies climate change man

2019-09-14 03:52:08 UTC

how do you even know who she is

2019-09-14 03:52:11 UTC

climate change - caused by suvs and oil - is not real

2019-09-14 03:52:13 UTC

you arent aussie right

2019-09-14 03:52:17 UTC

thats correct

2019-09-14 03:52:21 UTC

2019-09-14 03:52:25 UTC

2019-09-14 03:52:28 UTC
