Because if you're working and not even better off than somebody who isn't working, that would build resentment
GG @Soup Can Sam, you just advanced to level 5!
but if you're working hard, *you will be better off than them*
also welfare is typically *less remuneration than even a minimum wage job*
and that is *by design*
to ensure incentives are aligned properly
OK say you're getting 1000 a month from UBI but if you started a part time minimum wage job, and I'm talking a state with high minimum wage like maryland at 10.10 and lets be generous and say you get around 30 hours a week. You're working and only making about 212 dollars more a month than the person sitting on their ass doing nothing.
Now if you apply that to the federal minimum wage you'd need to work at minimum wage almost full time in order to break a thousand a month
To make the same amount of money as somebody literally doing nothing
So you would continue giving out UBI to the person with the job to prevent that from happening
i live in a country where the minimum wage is around $22/hr lmao
and welfare is anywhere between $4-8/hr
UBI wouldnt get us to $22/hr
so in our case, the incentives are aligned properly
but also
i thought you meant *welfare* payments
not UBI
australia does not have a population of 330 million
millions of illegals who take jobs for way less than the minimum wage are NOT going to australia
well actually
people migrate to indonesia
then come on boats to australia
so yea we had a lot of immigrants who took low wage jobs
idk about taking less than the min wage tho
you dont have 1 million coming per year in caravans ready to storm your border
dude its proportional
you have 330 mill
so 1 mill is nothing
we have 25 mill
neat
GG @rorschach, you just advanced to level 12!
so the equivalent is like 75k people
which is what we were getting at one point
whats this all about?
the conservatives reduced it in recent years
it's not proportional because a lot of those 1 million go to california, texas, and florida, putting strain on those states
you think that doesnt happen in australia?
they all go to the cities
and we dont have many cities
