So Iโm thinking buying about 3 of this. Each box holds 20 liters
Thatโs enough for 3 days of water for 5 people
Question is. Will I need to add some sort of water preserver? Or storing it in a cool place away from the sun should do it?
Well if you think about plastic water bottles they're contained and they can last a long time, so yes I think if you can keep them in a cool place away from the sun they can last a bit more than there exp. date. The only problem is that the bags my have plastic particles like a regular water bottle does
>away from the sun
this absolutely, I remember a couple hurricanes ago some mongoloid wound up leaving two cases of bottled water outside and the sun wound up heating the plastic and allowing it to leech into the water
^^
I think I read that the sun didnโt really made the plastic leech into the water
It just changes the taste of the water
I say away from the sun to prevent the growth of bacteria and shit
if it changed the taste of the water then it surely must have leeched into the water
maybe another method of preservation could be through the fermentation of a weak alcohol to keep a sterile environment, then to keep that out of sun?
The temperature change and sun exposure changes the taste of water directly
Start thinking about food storage prep, very seriously.
Not just beans and rice either, that's a larp.
Things like peanut butter, coffee, cans of tomato sauce, bulk pasta, jello packets etc. Think about bulk multivitamins, and things like baking soda.
Something every pantry should have is beef or chicken bullion as well. This is a very easy way to add flavor to beans and rice that you cook.
Another thing: dehydrated milk. Milk will be nearly impossible to get when shit goes down, you should have a few cans of this.
Freeze dried just-add-water meals as well. Think knorr or ramens, but do not make these the bulk of your prep as they lack nutrition.
Seriously consider getting a dehydrator and making jerkey / fruit leathers.
Are you LARPING, or are you fucking serious about having USABLE food storage that you can rotate into you diet as cheaper eating as well?
do multivitamins actually work?
@Patrick Bateman yes and no
they make a difference in that they (may) keep you from being deficient, but most multivitamins are made with bare minimum daily requirements in mind
they're supplements and should be regarded as such
fat soluble vitamins have ability to be acummulated in bodyโs fat deposits so when you have deficiency from external source body can use those deposits but not water soluble ones. They usually het excreted if you have excess ammount in body.
some deficiencies are extremely rare and only come out in severly malnourished individuals some come out quicker
it depends in what kind of environment you will live and what food you will have
taking vitamins twice a week is what i do

Roughly the same cost if not slightly cheaper than pre-made Gatorade when combining the cost of the water needed to make it. It'd be nice to have when you're sick. Gonna try long-term storage and see what happens

Fuck nibba
Is that on Costco?
Walmart
$8.38 for a can that makes 6 gallons
I've got some of the packets for individual bottles that are 6yrs old and still dandy
doesnt mention that you shouldnt use the flavor packet
true
i just got some new spice the other day
i think they were 2$ or 3$ each
the garlic in the salt isnt really noticeable
garlic salt makes everything taste better
im trying to cut back on salt some
it's nice, much better than table salt, but i just dont notice the garlic
Garlic salt and celery salt are God's gifts to mankind
Celery salt can go fuck itself
damn the food fandom nerds are at it again

Thanks brev
of course regular bleach is also carcinogenic but the article is still worth a glance
Does anyone know of any european companies selling freeze dryers?
I know harvest right in the US offers international shipping but after import taxes it would work out hugely expensive
I'm approaching capacity for bottled water storage in my tiny apartment; that'll put me at about 2 months' worth, hardly substantial. Any recommendations for how to make the most of the rest of my limited space? ||My first real milestone goal is one year's worth of food/water.||
I'm considering a WaterBob but I don't want to rely on that too heavily, since they look pretty flimsy and, you know, only work if you fill it up before water lines go down.
reverse osmosis filter from amazon and rainwater collection stuff
Like the post above mentioned about water myths, plastics rated 1, 2 and 4, so if u have a 1-2 liter soda bottle, fill it up and put it in the closet, if that takes up too much space, maybe get something like a life straw, sawyer filter or any decent hand style or pump that you can backwash to clean. The smallest ones are pretty good like the Sawyer mini (pic) can filter around 100,000 gallons supposedly

I've used the same sawyer filter for almost 5 years now. I haven't gotten the hershey squirts from lake/river water yet, so I'll keep going until I can report when it quits being effective.
what can they filter tho
can they filter shit like bacteria or just dirt particles
he said river water which is typically chock full of a nice combo of shit
eh
true
(Do not clean the filters with your bare hands, the outside of the ceramic filters can have concentrated levels of contaminants after extended use including heavy metals, organic compounds and more)
quick question: potatoe growing is a easy as going to my local food market, buy some potatoes that still have some roots (tubers) attached to them and putting them in the dirt? (watering etc. but thats a no brainer)
That's pretty damn close. Let the potatoes sprout first. You can even cut a potato up and plant each sprout individually, thereby turning one potato into 5 plants
The potato itself is a tuber
would it be possible to replicate the moisture farms in starwars? basically a bigger version of the solar still
