COLUMBUS, GA - A Columbus doctor of 16 years has been indicted in a massive healthcare fraud investigation.

The Ledger-Enquirer reports Dr. Alap Shah was indicted on June 19 in Florida.

The report says Shah is charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and receive health care kickbacks, and three counts of receiving kickbacks.

The investigation is brought on by the Medicare Fraud Strike Force which includes more than 600 defendants across more than 50 federal districts.

The false billing scheme cost the government $2 billion.
