And this is one of many many many long distance observations that are mathematically impossible on the standard globe earth model
The simple answer is the standard globe model you are prescribed is in error, it's never been measured, can be easily shown to be wrong and there is nothing wrong with saying that the Earth is apparently, mostly, locally, flat and partially hollow under certain weather conditions.
