2018-07-31 02:31:57 UTC

Of course, I also don't understand calling it a "poem".

2018-07-31 02:32:18 UTC

Perhaps I'm just not hip or something.

2018-07-31 02:32:50 UTC

P O S T M O D E R N I S M

Just because it doesn't make sense doesn't make it not art. Or good. Or something.

2018-07-31 02:33:49 UTC

In all seriousness, post modernism started as something unique and powerful. But by 70s had degraded into simply having no standards whatsoever.

2018-07-31 02:34:33 UTC

yeah its essentially modernism

2018-07-31 02:34:35 UTC

When your focal point is subverting standards, you eventually end up with unironic shit

2018-07-31 02:34:37 UTC

in the past

2018-07-31 02:35:30 UTC

You will invariably find yourself at the point where the only things you can challenge are notions of talent and quality

2018-07-31 02:36:28 UTC

XD so true

2018-07-31 02:36:51 UTC

That is the reality of the "post truth" crowd

2018-07-31 02:37:24 UTC

Is they exist in a paradigm with these authorities they want to challenge

2018-07-31 02:37:24 UTC

I still can't get over the article picture. It's a real thing. And it won a prestigious award.

https://allthetropes.org/wiki/True_Art_Is_Incomprehensible

2018-07-31 02:37:32 UTC

Not seperate from them

2018-07-31 02:38:31 UTC

There is no way for one to challenge standards that dony exist

2018-07-31 02:38:40 UTC

So really postmodern art

2018-07-31 02:39:21 UTC

As much as it wants to be seperate from the standards and authorities it challenges

2018-07-31 02:39:42 UTC

Could not exist without them

2018-07-31 02:40:06 UTC

An everlasting plea to seperate from reality and perception

2018-07-31 02:40:11 UTC

It's kinda fun. If you go to a major art museum you'll see the classics and immediately understand why they're classics and held in such high regard. And then you get to the post-moderns of the 1910s and realize how special it is and how it still has it's own high standards while subverting the traditional requirements of "art"

But then you go to the MOMA or something and begin to wonder if it's just a con game to steal money from gullible politicians or something.

2018-07-31 02:40:41 UTC

It all kinda burned off and now it's just a bunch of junk with weak standards and is just strange for the sake of being strange.

2018-07-31 02:41:00 UTC

XD get dem nice grant monies for da art schoolz

2018-07-31 02:41:14 UTC

Your tax dollars at work!

2018-07-31 02:42:09 UTC

Yeah i mean its not challenging to challenge a standard that has been challenged a million times outside of for practice

2018-07-31 02:42:21 UTC

Letalone be considered great

2018-07-31 02:42:52 UTC

Yeah, I'm big on the idea of a return to a certain degree of traditionalism in the academic system

2018-07-31 02:43:01 UTC

Get the standards back.

2018-07-31 02:43:02 UTC

Its a cycle

2018-07-31 02:44:41 UTC

Back and forth in an eternal stuggle

2018-07-31 02:45:21 UTC

But at this point yeeeeeeeah they need to come back in terms of alot of humanities

2018-07-31 02:45:49 UTC

Music i think is the only one that has really stayed the path of tradition

2018-07-31 02:47:19 UTC

In terms of academics. Even the newer sort of music classes are about well established traditional standards (at least in modern day with rock and pop classes and degrees becoming a thing)

2018-07-31 02:48:48 UTC

Its great because the musical equivalent of postmodernism is actually extremely well defined in terms of rules that have been established and codified in tradition

2018-07-31 02:48:57 UTC

Unlike its visual art counterpart

2018-07-31 02:49:08 UTC

I mean, you'll read classic literature in the English department, but the ultimate goal is always to reach deconstruction and the research is entirely driven by SocJus-type trends.

2018-07-31 02:49:32 UTC

Actually, that's not quite accurate.

2018-07-31 02:49:51 UTC

Well not that postmodernism doesnt have a sort of structure

2018-07-31 02:49:52 UTC

Most of the classic books have been replaced. But there's enough they'll claim they respect the classic canon.

2018-07-31 02:50:16 UTC

Its just more a negative sort of structure. In the sense of whats left

2018-07-31 02:50:49 UTC

Have you guys seen the postmodern generator

2018-07-31 02:50:51 UTC

Yeah i have a bud doing an english literature/education double major at the uni iblive by

2018-07-31 02:50:55 UTC

Yes

2018-07-31 02:51:02 UTC

it generates papers it's hilarious

2018-07-31 02:51:11 UTC

XD yeah its pretty funny

2018-07-31 02:51:27 UTC

A student once got a paper peer reviewed, called "The conceptual penis"

2018-07-31 02:51:34 UTC

it directly cited the post modern generator

2018-07-31 02:51:48 UTC

And hes told me the horror stories of his SocJus class and the approach of most of his teachers

2018-07-31 02:52:03 UTC

XD yeah ive seen that lol

2018-07-31 02:52:13 UTC

One of my cousins had to take a "Feminist Poetry" class as a gen-ed requirement

2018-07-31 02:52:19 UTC

Phallogocentrism strikes again!!!

2018-07-31 02:52:20 UTC

She hated it, thank goodness

2018-07-31 02:53:08 UTC

XD praise kuthuluuuu

2018-07-31 02:53:12 UTC

Yeah, I *really* want to clean up the unis. The humanities have no purpose if they are only going to serve as a recruiting grounds for activists.

2018-07-31 02:54:00 UTC

If there's no chance of getting a profitable job from a degree, or teaching something meaningful (because music is actually important, imo), then the degree should be scrapped

2018-07-31 02:54:01 UTC

Yeah or to propagate fucking propaganda and misinformation

2018-07-31 02:55:04 UTC

XD yeah good u threw that in for music or else thered be no need for music degrees lol

2018-07-31 02:55:24 UTC

Good luck trying to find a music job out of a UNI lol its fucking hard

2018-07-31 02:55:31 UTC

Well, that and my mother did music education for her first degree

2018-07-31 02:55:55 UTC

She's told every one of her students to pursue a second degree alongside music

2018-07-31 02:56:20 UTC

Better spend that time trying to find one than spend it doing a degree if you dont intend on working in a school of sorts

2018-07-31 02:56:41 UTC

Wise lady

2018-07-31 02:56:59 UTC

Unfortunately, her students haven't been so wise, historically.

2018-07-31 02:57:03 UTC

Most haven't taken her advice

2018-07-31 02:57:53 UTC

I mean. No offence to your mom but pursuing a degree in music isnt a sign of the sharpest cookie... This is coming from a musician too

2018-07-31 02:58:05 UTC

Who plays professionally

2018-07-31 02:58:24 UTC

If thats your only goal. In terms of getting the degree

2018-07-31 02:58:29 UTC

Well, it's why she went back to school and got a Master's in Business

2018-07-31 02:58:41 UTC

You gotta have the real long game in mind.

2018-07-31 02:59:10 UTC

Yeah thats great XD defs the more lucrative part of the music industry

2018-07-31 02:59:54 UTC

Lol theres way more fucking money in companies that make gear and manage groups than in being a musician

2018-07-31 02:59:58 UTC

ms in businiss is afar more useful degree

2018-07-31 03:00:37 UTC

tbh i feel college is a waste of time unless your going to learn something important like a STEM field

2018-07-31 03:01:00 UTC

better to go to a trade school

2018-07-31 03:01:17 UTC

and learn plumbing , electrician or something like that

2018-07-31 03:01:22 UTC

you can make mad bucks

2018-07-31 03:01:30 UTC

Yeah lol i mean there are more objectivley based aspects of all of these other industries

2018-07-31 03:01:42 UTC

Even in music

2018-07-31 03:01:47 UTC

fuck .... fuck school becums a garbage man no one wants to do that shit and it pays big cummies

2018-07-31 03:01:48 UTC

That actually make money

2018-07-31 03:02:33 UTC

if you want to do something you love .... good go for it but dont expect to be paid big bucks for it unless you want to get into some delicious #metoo moments

2018-07-31 03:02:58 UTC

Lol like what i did is i went to school for being a sound engineer. Essentially any digital or analogue media involving sound

2018-07-31 03:03:12 UTC

And it was a trade school

2018-07-31 03:03:25 UTC

@JULZIFICATOR sound engineer can pay some monies lots of msm companies need that

2018-07-31 03:03:35 UTC

So the idea is your being schooled on the industry you want to work in

2018-07-31 03:03:49 UTC

fuck you can even use audacity to edit audio for vids as a freelancer

2018-07-31 03:04:11 UTC

XD yeah i always lol when i see MSM networks having spund problems

2018-07-31 03:04:19 UTC

2018-07-31 03:04:38 UTC

dude i used to edit sounds using audacity noob stuff though not that shit you prob know julz

2018-07-31 03:05:43 UTC

2018-07-31 03:06:03 UTC

2018-07-31 03:07:03 UTC

Yeah i feel ya for video editing u really need the big fire

2018-07-31 03:07:30 UTC

dude even audio you need good equipment that shit can get super expensive

2018-07-31 03:07:37 UTC

Btw it was something dumb that the audio resolution was set improperly

2018-07-31 03:07:58 UTC

XD if u got a decent cpu n ram u can ram that shit in the box

2018-07-31 03:08:11 UTC
