I think you're missing the right and proper compromise for the issue. If one side decides to stop doing something for some reason the other side just has to change to fix the issue.

And above all else people are individuals. There are PLENTY of weak willed men who change their opinion to fit whoever is around them, just as there are plenty of strong willed women in the world.
