you not locked in a room with demons, they are locked in a room with doom guy

2019-03-09 16:44:14 UTC

yeah Doom "4" was a breath of fresh air imo

2019-03-09 16:44:27 UTC

I might install and play FEAR again

2019-03-09 16:44:54 UTC

@Grump The Horrible I'd say it was the first game perfectly rebuilt for the modern era.

2019-03-09 16:45:11 UTC

I have been playing Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and that is super fun but my friends are all busy playing something else

2019-03-09 16:45:16 UTC

They distilled the spirit of the first doom absolutely perfectly.

2019-03-09 16:45:19 UTC

yep

2019-03-09 16:46:34 UTC

I am taking a break from RE:2 remake. which also was one of the best remakes of an old game. CAPCOM has been on point lately

2019-03-09 16:46:39 UTC

The thing about certain types of "copying" in the creative arts is that they require people just at brilliant as the original makers to pull off, like the case of Brandon Sanderson ghost writing the last parts of Wheel of TIme.

2019-03-09 16:47:08 UTC

lol yeah

2019-03-09 16:49:38 UTC

@Grump The Horrible The Doom engine is very good, and unlike others, it gets resolution upgrades when used with processors with more cores.

2019-03-09 16:50:14 UTC

might try playing on nightmare again

2019-03-09 16:50:25 UTC

People have described its unusual performance as being due to an engine that "shunts as much data to the GPU as possible as fast as possible".

2019-03-09 16:50:46 UTC

well also I'd imagine it's well optimized

2019-03-09 16:50:54 UTC

and well coded

2019-03-09 16:51:11 UTC

Not just that, it's a clever architecture.

2019-03-09 16:52:41 UTC

isn't that a thought! Making something that works well and is fun to play is a winning strategy for making a great game! The other Devs that are under Bethesda should take note lol

2019-03-09 16:52:45 UTC

@Grump The Horrible Remember when Sony execs publicly demonstrated an "amazing new feature" their games had, by one executive passing a copy to another executive?

2019-03-09 16:53:36 UTC

"here's how to share games on PS4." ::passes game over:: "Thanks!"

2019-03-09 16:55:09 UTC

lol

2019-03-09 16:55:14 UTC

Amazing.

2019-03-09 17:02:42 UTC

@Grump The Horrible I'd like to see a game console that uses ROM cartridges where the mask ROM containing graphics data is VERY close to the connector, with the position of the GPU on the board being very close to the cartridge slot.

2019-03-09 17:04:01 UTC

@ebowden does upside-down land have regional specific shit for games like Europe does?

2019-03-09 17:04:13 UTC

or is it the same as the US

2019-03-09 17:05:20 UTC

Not sure.

2019-03-09 17:06:21 UTC

@Grump The Horrible Just in case you didn't know, one of the major performance bottlenecks with gaming GPUs is the RAM.

2019-03-09 17:06:37 UTC

yep Australia has PAL

2019-03-09 17:06:49 UTC

same a Europe

2019-03-09 17:07:15 UTC

North and South America have the same

2019-03-09 17:07:24 UTC

The idea with this console design would be having the graphics components of the mask ROM pull double duty.

2019-03-09 17:16:24 UTC
2019-03-09 17:22:02 UTC

The hunter call of the wild has been fun

2019-03-09 19:18:58 UTC

@Grump The Horrible Wolf 2 was my GOTY for 2017

2019-03-09 19:19:13 UTC

What's Wolf 2?

2019-03-09 19:19:34 UTC

Wolfenstein

2019-03-09 19:19:43 UTC

Ah, ok.

2019-03-11 20:21:41 UTC

Do you guys know of any "indie" developers of racing games? I kinda want to send someone the ideas I have and maybe get a job with that.

2019-03-11 20:22:17 UTC

I've already worked in the gamedev side of things, not a rookie.

2019-03-11 21:30:28 UTC

Yeah, ideas are cheap. VEEEEERRRRRRY cheap. What you need for such a job is skills.

2019-03-11 21:34:42 UTC

I have worked as a tester and consultant in a PS4 game.

2019-03-11 21:34:48 UTC

A rather sizeable one.

2019-03-11 21:35:16 UTC

Consultant?

2019-03-11 21:35:39 UTC

What did you do when you were a consultant?

2019-03-11 21:36:03 UTC

Yes, I helped them make the game closer to reality by relaying rules of the real rulebooks regarding the competition.

2019-03-11 21:36:20 UTC

Both about the vehicles and about the routes.

2019-03-11 21:36:57 UTC

It was baffling how they did not know basic rules even non-hardcore fans of the race know.

2019-03-11 21:37:19 UTC

Ok. Well, consultants are almost never creative directors or people who write the design docs, so you still need more skills.

2019-03-11 21:37:22 UTC

The team was rather happy me but the game did not sell well enough so the company downsized quite a lot.

2019-03-11 21:40:06 UTC

The studio was rather small even when I came in, around 40 people. They're currently at like 18 and almost nobody is working fulltime, most have sidejobs.

2019-03-11 21:41:09 UTC

Well, being a consultant and tester on an unsuccessful game will be even less valuable on your resume, you definitely need other skills.

2019-03-11 21:41:52 UTC

It wasn't my fault, there was a huge setback because the game changed engines rather late in development. It went from Unity to Unreal and that fucked the whole product quite a lot.

2019-03-11 21:42:09 UTC

I didn't say it was your fault.

2019-03-11 21:42:21 UTC

The main tool for a racing game is the vehicle-making tool, right? Imagine making a game with a broken tool because it is mostly incompatible with the freaking Unreal engine.

2019-03-11 21:42:36 UTC

It also does not matter that it isn't your fault, it is still less valuable on your resume, like it or not.

2019-03-15 18:28:35 UTC

Have you ever found a game so broken that a joke object or similar becomes a major almost-OP weapon? Well, that's what's happening with Trials Rising and the freaking BMX.

2019-03-15 18:34:04 UTC

Is Trials Rising supposed to be about motor bikes?

2019-03-15 18:38:42 UTC

Exactly, an exaggerated version of the actual motorcycling discipline.

2019-03-15 20:09:50 UTC

trials is supposed to be a super hard physics based motorcycle game

2019-03-15 20:10:05 UTC

i havent really heard anything about rising cuz i havent given it any thought

2019-03-15 20:15:50 UTC

Well, now you know that the BMX is sometimes the best vehicle you can have on the harder sections. ๐Ÿ˜‚ It's funny but I hate it because I know that this is proof they failed at doing a good job.

2019-03-15 20:16:58 UTC

Isn't there some terrain mountain bikes are good for that motor bikes aren't?

2019-03-15 20:17:39 UTC

BMX trials exist in real life but they can't do the stuff the motorbike guys can.

2019-03-15 20:18:01 UTC

Also, in the game, the BMX doesn't behave like it does in real life, it's basically a "superlight electric motorbike".

2019-03-15 20:18:08 UTC

Oh that's right, this is trials stuff, you don't go through actual terrain.

2019-03-15 20:18:22 UTC

The torque is perfectly smooth, it's a straight, no curve.

2019-03-15 20:18:27 UTC

lol

2019-03-15 20:19:13 UTC

No you've got it all wrong, that's just the gearing, SR-9009, Roids and other drugs.

2019-03-15 20:19:52 UTC

And it weights so little you can do certain stuff a bit better. The only true weak points?
ยท Top speed, this makes it rather useless for the easier stuff and some HARD/EXTREME sections.
ยท The bounce after a hard landing is smaller than the one you get off the actual trials-like motorbike, which makes some obstacle harder to overcome.

2019-03-15 20:20:42 UTC

The only true weak point is the top speed, the bounce is rarely a hardcore disadvantage.

2019-03-15 20:21:42 UTC

They make up for it by giving the player character Testosterone, Meldonium, P7C3-S243 and SR-9009.

2019-03-15 20:22:09 UTC

That's why he can generate so much torque so smoothly!

2019-03-15 20:23:50 UTC

The game is a bit all over the place when it comes to creative direction. The game is set in the present-day and has a "realistic" presentation, the sections look like actual sporting events... except you have explosives, do-or-die jumps, movie-like moments and endings that would kill any rider.

2019-03-15 20:24:30 UTC

lol

2019-03-15 20:24:56 UTC

In the game before, Trials Fusion, all that was explained through a small plot that tied everything a bit. Your rider was not a "complete" human being but a clone and the AIs running the place were trying to create a utopia with the rider as the base. The sections in the game are "tests" to create a greater being.

2019-03-15 20:25:46 UTC

One of the AIs literally tells you something like "stop using the RETRY button so often, you're depleting our reserves of biomass too quickly".

2019-03-15 20:26:25 UTC

Some of the plastic/metal-looking "boxes" that you see by the side in some levels? They're coffins for the failed clones!

2019-03-16 01:19:05 UTC
2019-03-16 01:19:19 UTC

Clickbait thumbnail but it's a real thing

2019-03-25 13:56:34 UTC

OMG, THE HYPE IS REAL!!!
I've earned a job interview to work in Ubisoft's Annecy studio, the one from STEEP. ๐Ÿ˜„

2019-03-25 13:59:05 UTC

Nice

2019-03-25 14:02:45 UTC

Ubisoft uses a 4-step hiring process:
ยท Offer
ยท Review
ยท Interview
ยท Final negotiation

2019-03-25 14:03:14 UTC

I've completed 2, which are usually where 90% of possible employees are discarded.

2019-03-25 14:04:57 UTC

I'm hyped because, even if I don't like the job and I only work for like 6-9 months, it'll still be really positive for me since it'll make me even more hireable for other studios.

2019-03-25 14:07:55 UTC

What games does annecy make? @druiz

2019-03-25 14:08:25 UTC

STEEP and, AFAIK, they're probably either making a sequel or another mountain sport-ish game.

2019-03-25 14:08:49 UTC

It's Annecy, you got PLENTY of inspiration around it for mountain sports-based videogames.

2019-03-25 14:09:40 UTC

35km south of Geneve in a straight line

2019-03-25 14:10:12 UTC

Less than 25km in a straight from places like Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz

2019-03-25 14:11:03 UTC

The name of the region is HIGH Savoy for a reason, hehehe.

2019-03-25 14:13:44 UTC

The peak of the Mont Blanc, highest mountain in not-Soviet Europe, is just 55km away in a straight line.

2019-03-25 14:45:32 UTC

Weirdest job I ever did while working at BigMoon?
Translating a freaking press release because they trusted me more than the Portuguese guy that knew Spanish. ๐Ÿ˜‚

2019-03-25 14:45:45 UTC

I even had to translate the lame-ass self-promoting crap at the bottom of all/most press releases!

2019-03-28 13:47:42 UTC

POLYPHONY HAS FUCKED IT UP
ยท The list for the cars for the NEXT update has been released by accident. You can find the future cars using the search engine for photos and liveries included in the game.

THE CARS THEMSELVES:
