The hunter call of the wild has been fun
@Grump The Horrible Wolf 2 was my GOTY for 2017
What's Wolf 2?
Wolfenstein
Ah, ok.
Do you guys know of any "indie" developers of racing games? I kinda want to send someone the ideas I have and maybe get a job with that.
I've already worked in the gamedev side of things, not a rookie.
Yeah, ideas are cheap. VEEEEERRRRRRY cheap. What you need for such a job is skills.
I have worked as a tester and consultant in a PS4 game.
A rather sizeable one.
Consultant?
What did you do when you were a consultant?
Yes, I helped them make the game closer to reality by relaying rules of the real rulebooks regarding the competition.
Both about the vehicles and about the routes.
It was baffling how they did not know basic rules even non-hardcore fans of the race know.
Ok. Well, consultants are almost never creative directors or people who write the design docs, so you still need more skills.
The team was rather happy me but the game did not sell well enough so the company downsized quite a lot.
The studio was rather small even when I came in, around 40 people. They're currently at like 18 and almost nobody is working fulltime, most have sidejobs.
Well, being a consultant and tester on an unsuccessful game will be even less valuable on your resume, you definitely need other skills.
It wasn't my fault, there was a huge setback because the game changed engines rather late in development. It went from Unity to Unreal and that fucked the whole product quite a lot.
The main tool for a racing game is the vehicle-making tool, right? Imagine making a game with a broken tool because it is mostly incompatible with the freaking Unreal engine.
It also does not matter that it isn't your fault, it is still less valuable on your resume, like it or not.
Have you ever found a game so broken that a joke object or similar becomes a major almost-OP weapon? Well, that's what's happening with Trials Rising and the freaking BMX.
Is Trials Rising supposed to be about motor bikes?
Exactly, an exaggerated version of the actual motorcycling discipline.
trials is supposed to be a super hard physics based motorcycle game
i havent really heard anything about rising cuz i havent given it any thought
Well, now you know that the BMX is sometimes the best vehicle you can have on the harder sections. 😂 It's funny but I hate it because I know that this is proof they failed at doing a good job.
Isn't there some terrain mountain bikes are good for that motor bikes aren't?
BMX trials exist in real life but they can't do the stuff the motorbike guys can.
Also, in the game, the BMX doesn't behave like it does in real life, it's basically a "superlight electric motorbike".
Oh that's right, this is trials stuff, you don't go through actual terrain.
The torque is perfectly smooth, it's a straight, no curve.
lol
No you've got it all wrong, that's just the gearing, SR-9009, Roids and other drugs.
And it weights so little you can do certain stuff a bit better. The only true weak points?
· Top speed, this makes it rather useless for the easier stuff and some HARD/EXTREME sections.
· The bounce after a hard landing is smaller than the one you get off the actual trials-like motorbike, which makes some obstacle harder to overcome.
The only true weak point is the top speed, the bounce is rarely a hardcore disadvantage.
They make up for it by giving the player character Testosterone, Meldonium, P7C3-S243 and SR-9009.
That's why he can generate so much torque so smoothly!
The game is a bit all over the place when it comes to creative direction. The game is set in the present-day and has a "realistic" presentation, the sections look like actual sporting events... except you have explosives, do-or-die jumps, movie-like moments and endings that would kill any rider.
