How would you respond to this

Thomas @thomas

That could be a reasonable concern.

Thomas @thomas

This is a scripted message. An important announcement has just been posted in the #announcements channel. Please review it in detail and follow the instructions given. If we have not conversed recently (or since the last scripted message), give me an update on your organizing and any questions or matters I can assist with. Thank you.

Hey Thomas wanna hang out on mumble?

Alexander OR is on mumble talking about how he enjoys typing with only his pointer fingers and that he enjoys comic sans

Thomas @thomas

I'm going to sign on for regular calls and such in a few minutes.

I need some sort of historical speech for thanksgiving please

Thomas @thomas

Do some research and see what you can come up with.

Thomas @thomas

I'm a little behind on my stuff here.

Anything historical in regards to thanksgiving you particularly really like?

Thomas @thomas

The first feast was in 1621. This year marks 400 years.

Thomas @thomas

If my math is right.

Thomas @thomas

Touch on that.

Thomas @thomas

"Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789." - President George Washington

Today marks the four hundredth year that our people have celebrated Thanksgiving on this continent, thousands of miles from the world they knew in the great and primordial wilderness that once reigned from sea to sea. A celebration of harvest, of military triumph, and of survival against all odds is what we observe today.

As we stand here today, remind yourselves of the weight of tradition that rests around you. This holiday is a not a day to be commercialized, and handed over to the vagaries of detached ceremony. The First Thanksgiving was not hosted in air conditioning, but after a battle, by a hardy people whose lives were defined by struggle. Half of Plymouth's settlers had just died to the unforgiving winter which preluded the first Thanksgiving. Every man, woman, and child would have known someone who perished to disease, frost, and starvation. These are not comfortable deaths. This is an anguish we cannot imagine today, but it is their perserverance which made for themselves a home, and made for us a nation.

Just 53 Pilgrims composed the first feast that would define a tradition now four centuries old. We mark this day of thanks with the blessings of Prosperity. Foods born of our native continent to give us strength and remind us of our connections to this land. Turkey, corn, potatoes, commonplace to us and the world now, but unknown to our pre-Columbian ancestors, strange new delights that filled the plates of our frontier forebears. These few dozen, a handful of families, struck a chord of cultural resonance that would carry them into immortality. Let these great stories of survival and resilience bring your heart to glow with courage. Their story is now yours to uphold.

I love it

Thank you

Lol

Thomas @thomas

Provide me the context for this image, and while you're at it you can explain why you find it humorous.

That’s an image of Johnny. I find it humorous because of his pot belly from over drinking soda. His mile time needs to improve significantly by the event.

Thomas @thomas

Where is this image from?

A banner drop

Thomas @thomas

Have you conducted the fitness test with Johnny as a recipient?

No but Walter did

We spent our time drilling and sparring and doing banners

Thomas @thomas

Does Walt have his metrics?

How many layers and what type of clothing do you typically wear during a december march??

I'm concerned I might get too warm with too many layers but also do not want to be cold either

Thomas @thomas

I was out camping last night for a tri-NW event.

At night, it could get into the low 40's, during the day it will be in the 50's.

Thomas @thomas

Warm enough to only need an extra light layer or two under the jacket. You'll be moving a lot.

Hey the interview server is down

What is @Jack WA vetting server login

Once Clarke is more seasoned he will be in charge of them. But for now he’s following Jack’s lead with interviewing.

My dad just reported to me that our internet and camera system around the house has someone trying to hack into it on a daily basis.

Thomas @thomas

I will talk to Jack about resetting his login.

I'm not a technician I can't speak to your camera system.

Just drop it

Do you have any ideas for where to place those signs we made

Sorry bad service

I’ve been friends with him since I was 15. I know him better than anyone else. Believe me when I say he’s not cut out for the role.

Thomas @thomas

I am more familiar with the drills and the requirements of the role than you are. Thus I am more familiar with the standards. I don't care what he was doing when he was 15.

How do you make text appear highlighted on the server?

Niggers

ok nvm i got it

:cowboy:

I want you to suspend me

640514 is good to go

Thomas @thomas

Will message.

Did he respond?

I think he’s gonna flake

Thomas @thomas

He sent me 9 messages.

Cool

How do you convince someone to quit their unhealthy habits?

Thomas @thomas

Depends on the habit.

Alcoholism, nicotine, toxic relationship, potential weed usage.

Thomas @thomas

Alright, so you've identified the problems. Who is the subject?

Leo OR

None of these have impeded his activism in any way though

Thomas @thomas

How does he usually respond best to guidance?

Something like that

Some complaint but will eventually shut up and do as he’s told

Thomas @thomas

Is this Telegram?

Yes

Thomas @thomas

I can't really give you any advice, then. To anyone, it looks like you aren't capable of following the advice you're given regarding basic comms standards. So why should they listen to you?

I leave all planning on rocket chat

And sensitive info, addresses, action plans, etc.

Thomas @thomas

Doesn't matter. You should leave all text comms to text comms platforms and calling comms to calling comms platforms.

Thomas @thomas

If I can do it, there is zero reason to believe you can't too.

Thomas @thomas

This is what my Telegram looks like.

Comms only with Mason and Patrick, who live with me, and Lucca, who's not a member.

Thomas @thomas

And I keep all standard comms with Mason and Patrick to the server. You're looking at maybe a forward from a channel or a voice message once a week that I don't respond to. Sometimes a picture. That's it.

I recently deleted it for a week but found that being unable to call people was impeding our actions and planning. I’ve tried 4 times now to make a new fake number on TextFree. All of which are banned on telegram. Waiting to get a new one, then deleting my old one, never joining a lame telegram chat again and log using it for calling.

Thomas @thomas

You can make calls without having text conversations on Telegram. I would know. I've done it.

Thomas @thomas

NW1 uses Threema, and I delegate that to Oscar. He's acting Scribe and makes all my calls for me.

Then there’s David. I don’t know what else to do for him. I’m giving him a copy of “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen hopefully it’ll give him insight on how to change his mindset.

Thomas @thomas

If your meetings are just rehashes of announcements, you could plan your meetings better. If guys are being too social in planning chats, then you could structure chats better.

If David just hates talking in general, you could tell him that we all have to do things we don't like do get things we want to get. If it means he has to learn how to talk without feeling pain, so be it. I don't feel giddy at everything I have to do. I don't enjoy clicking through emails, but I've done it tens of thousands of times several times weekly for four years. You just do.

When it comes to autonomy, not everyone needs it. Unless there's some big value lost in him not having autonomy to do, what it is we do not know, then it's not a priority. Objective is the output, not the opportunity.

When it comes to him not checking messages not on Telegram, that's on him. Structured comms (in accordance with the Notice) would give him a call once or twice in the week before a meeting. That doesn't solve his depression.

You can try to offer him what he wants, but he has to be honest with you about what that is. If he can't do that, you can't grant it. Even then, you can only offer what is yours to give and what won't harm the structure.

1️⃣Week Debrief
-Tell everyone they did a great job and highlight a few things you particularly enjoyed. Then go over Action recap.
-Action recap, what was done? How did it go?
-What went well?
-What could’ve gone better?
-Suggestions and ideas

2️⃣Fitness
-Everyone needs to be in the green by December 4th.

3️⃣ Activity for next week. Announce new interviewees. Jack and Clarke will go meet him. Leo and Clarke meet the Portland guy.

4️⃣Remind everyone about the event. Everyone needs to get everything on the gear list.

5️⃣ask for availability for late December for a Christmas dinner. Talk about that.

6️⃣Questions comments or concerns?

7️⃣End meeting. Feel free to hangout and talk.

Thomas @thomas

If you want to review what I think about meeting planning, I have a Notice about it in OVST.

I’ll give it a look

I’ve been working on David as much as I can. He went from stuttering so much he could not form a sentence to hanging out at the dinner table with us and sharing a glass of wine. I just wish he’d see that.

Guess he’ll just grow out of it. Lawrence suggested I outright remove him, but I think the org has helped him really.
