Actually

2018-10-10 23:40:24 UTC

no

2018-10-10 23:40:29 UTC

I can see AI being used effectively

2018-10-10 23:41:25 UTC

There are some drawbacks for use of primitive computerized hiring technologies, but the costs are borne by the companies implementing them; so they will likely improve over time.

2018-10-10 23:41:53 UTC

the thing is, if an AI discriminates in order to improve or establish a certain company culture, is that not legitimate?

2018-10-10 23:41:56 UTC

Like, for example

2018-10-10 23:42:08 UTC

It is sometimes legitimate, I would say.

2018-10-10 23:42:21 UTC

If my company uses an AI to filter out people based on certain personality traits, how is that bad?

2018-10-10 23:42:49 UTC

@ArdBoy Well, _legally speaking_ you would have to justify the test I think.

2018-10-10 23:43:02 UTC

If I wana hire exclusively weebs who like guns, because my company culture is that or I want the culture to BE that, is that unacceptable?

2018-10-10 23:43:03 UTC

I do enjoy we call things that are in no way AI, AI

2018-10-10 23:43:28 UTC

so they don't just get to design a test which is deliberately racist by proxy, with no other benefits.

2018-10-10 23:43:32 UTC

If it's acceptable for me as a hiring officer to do it, how is using a tool to expedite that any worse?

2018-10-10 23:43:37 UTC

@oprahsminge I'm just at peace with it at this point.

2018-10-10 23:44:09 UTC

I get what you're going for and I dig that

2018-10-10 23:44:10 UTC

@oprahsminge I mean, it's intelligence in the sense that the Central Intelligence Agency gathers intelligence.

2018-10-10 23:44:26 UTC

re:As long as it isnt functionally racially/etc motivated

2018-10-10 23:45:14 UTC

But I mean, if a majority of people who are weeb gun owners are white males, and the filter thereby drops people out disproportionately, that is a weird area

2018-10-10 23:45:15 UTC

@xorgy you mean two completely separate definitions of intelligence?

2018-10-10 23:45:24 UTC

It wouldn't be that hard to justify if you administered the test to people you'd already hired, and found that the people with better performance reviews happened to score high according to your classifier which used that test.

2018-10-10 23:45:52 UTC

@oprahsminge They're vaguely related, in such a way which allows you to retcon AI to use the other. (in order to preserve your sanity)

2018-10-10 23:46:17 UTC

@xorgy they're in no way related.

2018-10-10 23:46:53 UTC

Just forget it. Agreed to disagree or whatever

2018-10-10 23:51:41 UTC

@ArdBoy I think unless you made some sort of value off of that culture, you might run into _some_ trouble.

2018-10-10 23:52:06 UTC

Weeb gun owners is probably... a bigger demo than one might think, though.

2018-10-10 23:56:18 UTC

Why are the anti gun people complaining about Armalite-15s when handguns are the most used weapons in mass shootings?

2018-10-10 23:56:18 UTC
