Sure I would have started before the formal end of conflict. For instance all the German 88s were occupied defending against the air war rather than killing Russian tanks. We actually bombed Dresden to deny rail access to move material to the Eastern front. Better to allow the German Socialists to re-deploy and kill more Russian Socialists. Higher attrition would have paved the way.

It is not a matter of plans rather of logistics. Forgive me but I am an American. Since the fight is always on the other side of the planet and across an ocean we tend to have a heavy bias towards logistics. Germans and Russians are right next to each other and already armed. So, *logistically* the best way to kill off Nazis and Communists is to encourage their natural inclinations. Guys from Ohio (and their tanks and petrol and ammunition) have a much higher logistical cost.
