The descendants of the native slaughterers stayed in the Americas, so ironically they are still ruling there while accusing the peninsulars (descendants of the people that never touched the colonies) to apologise for it.
Especially since we tried stopping them expanding in the war of 1812. Though I find it strange that any South American could take the moral high ground against Spain considering the utter disaster that is most of their countries.

and when they talk about the need for harsher sentences it is absolutely useless since the judges only give out low sentences, or suspended ones, because prisons are quite close to 3 star hotels and thus jailing people is too expensive
or, like some like to think, the judges and politicians themselves have dabbled in such things and want to set the trend as low as possible in case they get caught themselves
they tried to overthrow the legal government and failed but despite this the winners played it soft and didn't get into the traditional murdering of failed revolutionaries afterwards
this was good for having people to fight the soviets bit later and also unified the country but we have always had an uncomfortably large socialist not-quite-but-almost-underground that likes to infiltrate parts of the society and pull hard left
main concern being the current press (everyone with formal university education of journalism comes from same very hard left university), lawyers and trade unions
as for fascists, we were never really comfortable with it even while we were allied with germans (more of a necessity as there was nobody else available) and even that little has faded away fast once soviets got to mess around with our internal politics after ww2
20s and 30s had a potential start for a serious fascist movement but they really liked the president at the time and he told them to quit it so they did
