The concept of civic nationalism is extremely naive. The idea of a large group of different peoples with extremely different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, somehow being able to assimilate together peacefully, is dumb. For instance, let's take France. France was eventually united, but it's important to note that the different people's of france had much in common already. Despite that, it took an entire century of bloodshed to unite it. German immigrants in the US absolutely refused to speak english or assimilate. Places like Pensilvania were absolutely dominated by German culture. Now, who in their right mind would go "Okay guys, let's do this again but with even more diversity!". We're conditioned to believe that the Founding Fathers always intended America to be a "boiling pot", even though, the very first naturalization act, and every single one up until 1965, made it blantatly obvious that, that's not what they intended at all. Most people, specifically people of non-white cultures, aren't willing to give up their cultures and traditions. Civ-nat can work on a small scale, but when it's big numbers? Fuck no.
