@snake so Kaczynski was basically saying that we have been attracted by the pursuit of knowledge because we no longer live in hunter gatherer societies where the exploration of large swathes of land was essential for survival?

2020-03-28 02:59:10 UTC

No. He said that surrogate activities are limited and don’t allow for true individual freedom. He hated the technology because he viewed it and industrial society as a form of control

2020-03-28 03:01:15 UTC

Well yes he did describe science and art as meaningless pursuits but I thought you meant he basically described academic pursuits as an artificial replacement for the activities we used to do when we were hunter gatherers.

Reminder that Kaczynski was a great Mathematician before abandoning it all and going to the woods

That's one of the most well known aspects of his life

2020-03-28 03:03:12 UTC

He's the perfect mad genius in that regard

2020-03-28 03:04:09 UTC

Also reminder that he was subject to US Govt. funded psychological experiments while in College

2020-03-28 03:04:12 UTC

I still don't know what made him say fuck it and go live a primitive lifestyle in Montana

2020-03-28 03:04:15 UTC

they fucked him up too... in the head

> As a sophomore, Kaczynski participated in a study described by author Alston Chase as a "purposely brutalizing psychological experiment" led by Harvard psychologist Henry Murray. Subjects were told they would be debating personal philosophy with a fellow student, and were asked to write essays detailing their personal beliefs and aspirations. The essays were turned over to an anonymous attorney, who in a later session would confront and belittle the subject – making "vehement, sweeping, and personally abusive" attacks – using the content of the essays as ammunition, while electrodes monitored the subject's physiological reactions. These encounters were filmed, and subjects' expressions of anger and rage were later played back to them repeatedly.[24] The experiment lasted three years, with someone verbally abusing and humiliating Kaczynski each week.[25][26] Kaczynski spent 200 hours as part of the study.

The MKultra allegations haven't been proven iirc

2020-03-28 03:05:15 UTC

The experiments were conducted, regardless if they were MK Ultra or otherwise

2020-03-28 03:07:09 UTC

Huh, 200 hours, maybe it was one of the things which gave birth to his more aggressive tendencies

Also on the previous topic in almost all cases where certain demographics are extremely successful in academia said demographics have a more privileged economic position compared to the others, relatively speaking. Say German immigrants to the US in the 19 and 20th centuries would have always been more successful than Russian immigrants to the US due to them coming from more advantageous economic positions.

2020-03-28 03:20:46 UTC

But it also depends on other factors like the emphasis on academia in the respective countries those ethnic groups come from.

2020-03-28 03:21:20 UTC

It would be quite hard to control for all of these factors.

Real diabeetus hours in chat when the foreskin merchant massacre topic comes up. <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898> how long did you shit talk each other? A complete dumpster fire this shitshow was haha. <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898> @Andrew Popa 2.0 @Son of Rome @UnScottable @snake

What's the correlation between homosexuality and raw iq?

2020-03-28 13:49:56 UTC

That's been known for a while I think. I recall seeing a paper about that from the 70s when I was in uni.

2020-03-28 13:50:12 UTC

It's not a big difference. ~3 IQ points or something.

I do not think Berlin and Kay were talking about biology so much as how *language* can affect perception. It's like Gladstone's observation that the color blue does not exist in any of the ancient Greek texts. Of course a few generations later they see and can use the word no problem. It's like that Russian cognitive experiment where illiterate peasants could not perform basic syllogisms because they did not have the categories inherent in written language.

Hey I was the first to post that here, smh

2020-03-28 16:43:02 UTC

So, anyway, we often hear Sargon oppose slavery yadda bad yadda ... because immoral?

But why is slavery, in general, immoral?

The way I see it, enslaving your enemy is better than killing him. Slavery for the Chinese is MORAL. We should enslave the Chinese. Both because they're Chinese, and because they're communists. Niggers getting uppity? Well, we can't just let them. We can't send them back. We can, however, put them in prison, (like we do already), and use them to make spoons or something. The same applies to the Chinese.

Everyone with a Chinese passport should be imprisoned and forced to make facemasks.
