I don't care about what political pundits are saying about Trump. I care about how the Government tackles the issue, and in this instance at least his response has been, put lightly, horrendous.
And no one is saying China is not to blame. Their encouragement of wildlife trade was what caused the outbreak and their attempts to downplay it to the WHO was what eventually turned it into into a pandemic.
What should've been done according to you? The political circles I roam in are split 50/50 between this was an over-reaction vs this was an under-reaction and it is the end of the world etc.
However if you want to talk about the "global system" and its contribution to this issue do keep in mind that we have had this "global system" for the past century and it's quite impossible to change. Free trade and the globalization of the economies of the world's states has been the norm for quite a while.

Well he should have banned all external travel as soon as the first case was reported in the US, maybe/maybe not allowing the transportation of US citizens in foreign countries back to the US. He should have also prioritized efforts to contain it, again as soon as the first case was reported, and not treated the whole issue like it was just a mildly worse flu season.

He didn't take it seriously back then, due to a combination of low information/complacency and not wanting to hinder big business during an election season
But the US, like all of the world's countries, had already been informed by the WHO about the outbreak and how serious it is by January the 10th, 10 days before the first case appeared in the US.
