he's losing faith as am I
In particular, considering the origin of those terms, it referred to the general alignment during the French Revolution, in terms of who was on the side of monarchy and who was not.
the labels are useless
atheists conservatives 👌🏿
I think a better distinction nowadays is a dichotomy between moralizing busy body and libertarian.
Or even libertarian and authoritarian.
I was wondering if conservatives are just liberals from past generations
holding onto whatever ideals were liberal at the time
Strictly speaking, it would make more sense to place the authoritarians on the right wing (with the monarchs of olden days and centralization of power) and us on the left, which would also align the term with liberal, in the way it was used in Britain and in its original meaning.
they didn't get on the 72 genders hype train and got ditched ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
banding together with other people trying to conserve some sense of sanity
Strictly speaking, we are the liberals, we are on the left - as are libertarians - and Antifa are on the right.
the 72 genders hype train was where I jumped ship
antifa more like fa
I think, one of the first steps of bringing sanity back to politics would be to stop misusing these terms, because they let people claim ownership of bodies of thought that they have no claim to.
there's no talking to these people
labels are counterproductive as fuck
No, they are not.
if you mention anything that goes against their world view they bring out the bullhorns and go full NPC attack mode
Misused labels are counterproductive.
they misuse all labels
hell they don't even know what man and woman is anymore
And the better we communicate, the better we can solve an issue.
I think that the precision of a solution is predicated on the precision to which the problem has been articulated.
if you guys didn't get it the number 5 is the numerical value for the roman numeral V.
true, but the magic of labels is to be reductive by nature
maybe we need better labels ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You probably have a good basis to criticize categories. If they are overextended, they cease to be useful, just as analogies taken too far lose their use.
Part of the problem, I think (could be wrong) is that gov't can't look at individuals...they have to look at groups and make policy based on that - yes, there ARE exceptions, but the policy should be for the majority.

Take, for instance, the craziness about the gender thing.... Truly, it affects less than 3% of the population. It's not something that gov't should even be involved with.
I IDENTIFY AS A MOTHER FUCKING ORANGUTAN
But people nowadays are too quick to dismiss useful categories. One of the arguments why gender is supposed to be fluent or a social construct is because there are grey zones or transitions between them. But so there are transitions between red and blue.
Red and blue are categories. They categorize a section of the visible spectrum of light into a category that makes it easy to communicate. Everybody knows what you mean when you say "red" or "blue".
Yet, there are transitions and gradients between red and blue. There is purple, for example.
Does that therefor mean that red and blue do not exist?
Does it mean that the categories red and blue are useless?
