@AHeroQuest yes assuming that the philosophy is what they hold
And I'd say that's due in part to the nature of the world currently. Too much instant gratification leads to that desire elsewhere in life, even when logic and rational should be your go to.
you act like we live in this perfect arete world
@Stefan Payne painting a extreme situation which is complicated in itself and philosophy is not meant for dealing with
life is not dealing with your dead wife
I never said being selfish i negative, i said you can be too selfish. wich you disagreed with
@taekahn I gave you how a selfish man would act and you say it isn't possible
you bascially argued there is no point at which a person can be too selfish
yws
*yes
a ridiculous statement.
in your opinion, someone blowing up the world becuase they want a little peace and quiet is fine
?
can't be too selfish, gotta consider only your own needs to every extreme
howd you conclude that
That's the realm of being a dick 😛
that means man destroys all his other values
Because it never ends when you start
So then you admit you CAN be too selfish
You should watch Code Geass, thats kinda what its about
either you can, or you can't
@taekahn its not selfish to throw away all your values for it to be quiet
I'm not sure if painting this in a black or white scenario helps
lol
The values are what stops you from beeing a psychopathic serial killer.
It is a black and white scenario.
Either you can be too selfish, or you can't be too selfish.
Describe a middle ground
@taekahn you idiot ive refuted everything and you just ignore what I say
apparent selfishness?
like it appears to be selfish acts but by the end it benefits everyone to a significant degree?
Would you say i'm being too selfish in the converstaion then, tv?
I'm thinking more of a half-full / half-empty glass situation
unless I am way out of the ball park with my version of the middle ground
I don't know @AHeroQuest . I get where you're coming from, but that goes deeper than the act of doing something selfish into considering the ramifications of the action
Being selfish isn't a bad thing. And good things can result from it and bad things can result from it
Its the act itself that i'm talking about. The "i'm doing this without consideration for anyone but myself"
A certain amount of selfishness is healthly
but like anything, you can be too selfish
you can also be too selfless
its all a balance
I'd agree with the original sentiment that being selfish usually has a negative connotation, but being selfish doesn't mean it's being done out of spite or with hatred or ill intent.
If you blow up the world for peace and quiet and then decide after you want a conversation. You have already destroyed your other values
