Forgetting his umbrella and shit, that's totally reality TV star level of "stupid", it's because he doesn't actually stop and think of such situations like a normal person, he's outside the realm of normal.
That doesn't mean he's better or worse, it just means he's different.
But the particular way that he's different gets attention, because that's how reality TV stars live their lives.
