lol watched a trailer for total annihilation.. for 1997 doesn't look bad
the systems are what make it. Instead of a bot costing say, 80 metal all at once (asspulled numbers), the bot will cost 2metal per second, and if your income is 8 metal then you could build 4 at once. But you could also build 5 and hope you get them all done before your stockpile runs out
which means you can rush big projects early, and then your opponent can attempt to fuck your infrastructure to tank your economy
economy is what makes an rts
seems they tried to remove that aspect in some rts to reduce complexity an help stupid people not suck at the game
in SupCom eco games can become pretty nuts
you're basically building superfactories and some units weapons and some defenses will use the same resources you put into other stuff
spend too much on that giant spiderbot? Your radar ran out of power and your shields are flickering
which means that when your power grid gets nuked, your base defenses get fucked
