German shepherd is
1) a big fucking dog
2) one of the most aggressive dogs, measured by number of bite incidences
3) used by police and military
4) a breed nobody questions people owning

@Existence is identity totally agree, that is why I rejected that notion. All dogs need a loving family, some just need a differnent type of love.
my family owns 3 basset hounds
For basset hounds I recommend a deaf family.
Ironically, American Bulldogs and Pit Bull Terriers are frequently rated as dogs highly compatible with children. They're also dogs that are said to not be good for first time dog owners, which I suspect is there the wrench gets thrown in
