A CPAP is a machine with a mask that you wear on your face. Either full (mouth and nose) or just your nose, that pumps air into your throat relaxing your muscles so your lungs get enough air.

I think it's a huge reason why I'm such an extreme environmentalist

Because my throat closes up due to my strong throat muscles meaning I suffocate as I sleep. And yeah, I have obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy.
