It has effects on society, as well; we don't consider felons as having served their time, because the majority go out and reoffend, proiving they didn't really get "fixed" by prison.

2018-11-30 16:04:55 UTC

Because of they dont, forcing them to by law will only make things worse

2018-11-30 16:07:11 UTC

I mean, the CJ system is a shitshow top to bottom and I have no idea how to actually completely or even significantly fix it

"Liberty is meaningless where the right to utter one's thoughts and opinions has ceased to exist. That, of all rights, is the dread of tyrants. It is the right which they first of all strike down. They know its power. Thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers, founded in injustice and wrong, are sure to tremble, if men are allowed to reason of righteousness, temperance, and of a judgment to come in their presence." ~ Frederick Douglass

You guys are going at this all wrong

2018-11-30 16:07:37 UTC

You'd be surprised that I've seen a solution better than prison.

2018-11-30 16:07:49 UTC

Murder

2018-11-30 16:07:52 UTC

Right?

2018-11-30 16:07:58 UTC

Am I right

2018-11-30 16:08:03 UTC

Awe

2018-11-30 16:08:04 UTC

This isn't just some.. feel good story.

2018-11-30 16:08:08 UTC

I'm not right

2018-11-30 16:08:08 UTC

His logic checks out.

2018-11-30 16:08:19 UTC

Listen to what the judge says about why he does it.

2018-11-30 16:08:25 UTC

I can't, I'm @ work

2018-11-30 16:08:29 UTC

TLDR it

2018-11-30 16:09:05 UTC

He gives out custom punishments.

2018-11-30 16:09:12 UTC

And almost none of them involve prison.

2018-11-30 16:09:20 UTC

It's been awhile since I've seen the clip.

2018-11-30 16:09:40 UTC

🤔

2018-11-30 16:10:06 UTC

"30 days of jail, or walk 30 miles"

2018-11-30 16:10:40 UTC

Another guy chooses the sentence of dressing up like a chicken and embarrass himself on the street, after being caught trying to buy a prostitute.

2018-11-30 16:11:01 UTC

Honestly, this shit makes a lot more sense than CAGES.

2018-11-30 16:11:05 UTC

I mean, shame is one HELL of a motivator.

2018-11-30 16:11:08 UTC

yes

2018-11-30 16:11:13 UTC

Well they make sense for each crime.

2018-11-30 16:11:16 UTC

What's his reoffense rate tho

2018-11-30 16:11:19 UTC

They reflect the crime in some way.

2018-11-30 16:11:32 UTC

I remember it being low, but not how low.

2018-11-30 16:11:53 UTC

@Scribblehatch Humiliation would straighten you up better than a cage.

2018-11-30 16:12:09 UTC

That's all that matters IMHO, if you can avoid killing the offender and reducing reoffense, you're doing well.

2018-11-30 16:13:01 UTC

I've listened to the video

2018-11-30 16:14:14 UTC

But I would have to see the stats

2018-11-30 16:14:19 UTC

And I think that's fair

2018-11-30 16:15:52 UTC

I would want to see how this judge sees cases like murder or sexual assault or anything violent

2018-11-30 16:16:08 UTC

BUT this is not me saying that I dont think what he is doing is great

2018-11-30 16:16:38 UTC

People who commit the crimes shown in the video I agree should be given a better chance rather than going to prison

2018-11-30 16:18:16 UTC

Yeah, jail should be reserved for dangerous offenders such as rapists or murderers because in those cases they can remain a danger to the public if left alone. When it comes to crimes like buying a prostitute, I agree with this judge and his style

2018-11-30 16:19:00 UTC

I think that the type of murder is necessary to consider
