That's the Constitution.
I'm not so convinced.
You're saying the constitution is mob rule.
I am getting super frustrated Pratel, please take over.
*Sighs...* I am dealing with fucking withdrawals, makes it hard to think..
Mob rule would be more like the 51% storms through town, suppresses everyone's votes and gains power. It's more like, the president gets elected 71% and then 2 years later is sitting at 30% with everyone rioting in the streets.
And these people are talking about letting the mob rule trample over everyone.
Mob rule is considered mob rule unless everyone agrees with it.
And no one is hurt.
Then welcome to society. Which flavor of mob rule do you want?
Because that's all we got.
A big feature of mob rule is when people who really don't know what they are talking about determine the politics.
you can rule via mob rule, or via force from a small group. You cannot however let a small group lead by intelligent and helpful means because people are selfish assholes who wil ruin whatever they can... either small amounts of force from most people or a large amount of force from some of the people are required to keep it from disintigrating under anarchy
They are just joining the mob and ruling by their feelings.
That is what he is talking about... outlawing something based on votes.
pratel, it sounds like Feminism to me.
But making sure it can't be changed by using the constitution to outlaw it.
The constitution isn't suppose to be used against the citizens.
Everything in America can be changed.
I was actually going for Macron's France.
But sure. Alot of early America had mob rule.
anything utopian would fall apart under the reality that people are fucking self destructive greedy prideful idiots
By Dusty's definition, America has never not been mob rule.
I think we need a definition of mob rule.
Really it's a matter of how many checks and balances there are to the mob, and how their choices negatively impact the minority
Oh we had mob rule, in many places. We stil have it today.
We also actually need to be careful not to simply worship the interests of the minority.
Unofficial authority imposing their will upon others.
Official authority is also mob rule.
Even more so, because they're even better at ignoring the will of the minority.
Eh, the argument against too much democracy is that the mob obtains official authority.
@Dusty Morgan think about this, what side do you pass on when you pass someone in a hallway? do you move to your right when passing someone? think of how ingrained that mob rule is in you
"mob" implies unintelligent, mindless and violent.
Like in the US we can't just have 99% of the population vote to kill someone we don't like. That's just not how it works. That'd be decided by courts and judges.
You are telling me to choose between mob rule or dictatorship.
We totally could, using the amendment process.
Nothing is stopping us.
I choose neither, I choose being in the middle.
@Misomania That's not mob rule, that's just social convention. And for the record, I walk on the left all the time.
What's in the middle, Dusty?
