it was terrible and it drove me away from religion
@taekahn hebrew is an "oriental" language as in it shares certain characteristics with other languages in that style, it uses metaphors and parables quite often to explain things
And the way they look at outsiders.
and also christian elementary school
@LittleGiantJ itβs really just the fossil record.
it was awful
forced religion sesions and stuff i hated it
and still hate it
My second favorite islamic "Dogma" is that god speaks to people in arabic, When the idea of god not being mulitlingual is ridiculous
I just find it obnoxious that some people decide that the bible is completely whole and perfect and nobody decided to "touch it up" to fit their personal desires, and I'm a christian myself
I hate that too
Agreed, I believe the old testament is largely metaphorical and not a science collection of books, and barely a collection of history.
the principles behind christianity is good but how they do it is terrible
The bible was totally tampered with I don't believe for a second it was perfectly preserved
Yes and that is my Criticism of Dawkins and Harris: They didn't try to improve it.
the principles that have survived are good
they just tore it down
Doubt you could do it better.
they have to get new PR and HR department to get me back into christianity
and then the people were left with a hole in their heart.
No. It's confirmation bias.
And can you explain away the fact Austraila's the only place where you will find kangaroos, koalas...and the only place you will find their fossils? No. @Salacious Swanky Cat
I will meet you in the middle Stefan and say they didn't try and replace it
Well, ignoring the fact that it was written is aramaic originally, neither of those are from the orient, despite any similarities. Calling it oriental because it uses metaphors is a stretch.
But am I the only one bothered when people say "You can only understand the quran in its arabic form"
As if arabic is somehow special
which i agree, is the general problem with a lot of things
And translation doesn't exist
like the republicans attempt to "repeal and replace"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9ocbvMUF-M DId anyone see this?
Yeah, because they try to weasel their way out of that shit @π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯
The YE-Creationist interpretation does not hold up when compared to what we have.
@LittleGiantJ Iβm saying that they donβt agree with the fossil record. Not the process of evolution. Thatβs all Iβm saying.
It's a complete argument GetOutOfJailFreeCard and they know it
@π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯ the only problem with translations is that the more you translate it, the farther you get from the original intent. That's one reason the bible is in no way preserved from the original writing
and why the greek and hebrew translations are considered better than english
@GoldenPhoenix you donβt understand how it gets translated. Lol
i think any book is most understood in its original writing ... when it is translated it will lose some of its original meaning no matter how hard you try to keep the meaning of it cus the translation is subjektive
But a lot of that problem can be circumvented with annotations
some words and phrases to not translate well
@Grenade123 i agree
also, depending on who does the translating, culture phrases and context are sometimes lost
