I built mine up using small, repetitive loans over time along with other debts being repaid

I never used the loan money

just stuck it in an account and then repaid it at the end of the term

If you care. An easy way to build it is to pay all utility bills/etc with a credit card and then pay it off before it collects interest at the cutoff date.
