If Democrats get their way on even half the measures they propose now, America will diverge from some of its most basic tenants permanently.

If we didn't have the electoral college then the peoples of 40 states would march on the 5 largest cities and burn them to the ground.

Some might argue that the will of the cities should be proportionally represented, if that is where the need of most people is.

Nope the cities would enforce their beliefs on the rural population.

I'm open to the idea of statehood for the big cities themselves to further reduce the urban-rural divide.

But, when you vote, you also cast a vote for the needs of your region, which might be different. Even if there were 90 people living in a town and 10 running a farm across the river, if the vote always ignored the needs of those ten people, who might be important for the country regardless, the country overall would be worse off.

There's a lot more to a territory than its population.
