And no, she's an early love interest that gets put on a bus for most of the series
but is still important
But isn't the point of the culture war that it's invading every aspect of our lives. Like "I just wanted to read sci-fi/fantasy, man"...
Oh she’s a standby character for the main to flaunt over?
actually no
the author aborted that trope early on
more of an old flame who got caught up in this bullshit and didn't need to be sort of trope
"i just wanted to play video-games"
essentialyl that, grenade, actually.
She got herself caught up in magic shit and was the crux of a lot of the early plots
Dresden's by far my favourite for its ... not quite "gritty" but more grounded take on what a hidden world of creatures and magic would be; Humans are damn good at explaining away the supernatural, most creatures that *do* hunt humans tend to have gotten *really* good at not being noticed.
Oh so this is Percy Jackson but in Chicago
except with guns.
and lots of actual death.
Because riodan also put in a random character for the sake of being there
and there have only been two proper old world deities seen on panel by book 15
and both are terrifying
It plays on the idea that if you have a council of wizards, and wizards live 300 or 400 years, that compounded interest means that the council of wizards has more financial weight than most countries
I live in a small town, of 10,000 people, non-English speaking, 2.5 hrs flight from the nearest major city. And I see teenage trans/respect my pronoun graffiti in English, here, as well as stickers by antifa-alike groups saying "Die yuppy scum" in English.
so wizards don't *need* to go to war to get waht they want, they can beauacracy that shit most of the time
It is everywhere.
But if wizards *need* to go to war, they can go to *war*
Man we're talking about urban fantasy here
Weird
Shit i just realised that with mumkey jones channel deleted his video on Reactor is gone
So what it’s like 5 assholes doing shit
there
It's like
it's easier to dump the wikipedia breakdown hold up
```In the world of The Dresden Files, magic is real, along with vampires, demons, spirits, faeries, werewolves, outsiders, and other monsters. Although the supernatural is still widely discredited, it is practiced by some members of society.
Additionally, large portions of the globe (such as much of Central and South America) are mentioned as being largely under the control of supernatural factions. The White Council is an organization of human wizards, noted to wield significant economic power in the world, along with their supernatural power.
Each species in the series (humans, faeries, vampires, etc.) has its own political and societal rules and organizations. The human wizards depend on the White Council, while faeries may belong to either of two Faerie Courts, or none at all. Vampires may belong to any of four vampire courts.
Harry Dresden works as the world's only "consulting wizard", accepting supernatural cases from both human and nonhuman clients, as well as the Chicago PD's Special Investigation unit. As the series progresses, Dresden takes on an increasingly important role in the supernatural world at large, as he works to protect the general public, making getting by as a working wizard and private investigator difficult for him.
He finds himself facing off against an increasing variety of creatures (including other wizards), while facing the realization that his various cases may all be tied together behind the scenes and that his role might be even greater than he is willing to admit```
Maybe. My wife's 93 year old grandma has a little bit of TDS. The media in non-English speaking countries is just translations of CNN.
Wasn't that mumkey's biggest vid on YT?
concerning the US.
there
as of now we're 15 books into this series
plus two anthologies of short stories from between the novels
a few comics that are psuedo-canon
and when we're done here, we're looking at something like 20-23 books
capped off with a "Big Apocalyptic Trilogy"
