I recall reading a story about a guy who signed a legal waiver stating he was actually sane and going undercover in an asylum for a while only to still have to fight a protracted legal battle to get out because they didn't believe him

It has it uses but due to the subjetive Nature of the mind most people just project their belief into patients

from a philosophical standpoint all humans are insane to varying degrees since we're all incapable of actually perceiving objective reality
