There is merit, the CDC announced to be prepared for COVID-19 to interfere with "regular life". Regardless of the outbreak, you should have at least 72 hours of food, water general medical supplies (bandaids and stuff, *papercuts can kill* ) and specific medical supplies you need for any conditions ( contact solution, insulin, etc.)
