A horse would be let into the wilderness to roam for a year, after which it was recaptured. It would then be covered with a piece of cloth and tied to the alter presented to the king performing the sacrifice. He would then slay the horse using his right hand. His bride, assuming he has one, would then lie next to the horse and get under the horse, then pretending to have sex with it. It was believed that the power of the horse was transmitted onto the woman, and that subsequently the king's heirs would have the strength of horses.
