Hermeticists are supposed to promote the existence of our species and existence overall.

2020-03-15 14:59:13 UTC

Sometimes creation is fueled through the promologation of suffering and passion: Doing nothing is the equivalent to fading away.

2020-03-15 15:00:00 UTC

destruction is the first part of creation

2020-03-15 15:00:11 UTC

Death is the final step before birth

2020-03-15 15:00:31 UTC

Same principle: every man and woman is a star: and stars explode into stardust which become new stars

2020-03-15 15:00:42 UTC

the eternal cycle

2020-03-15 15:00:45 UTC

Yup

2020-03-15 15:00:58 UTC

tbh its one of if not the most beautiful thing that exists

2020-03-15 15:01:44 UTC

Talking about Hermeticism? Cool.

2020-03-15 15:01:59 UTC

Life is poetry in motion: sometimes the depths of suffering are beautiful and provide us with meaning that motivates us to move on.

2020-03-15 15:02:34 UTC

suffering is struggle and struggle is the engine of life

2020-03-15 15:02:42 UTC

@Greg Noir It can be a bit difficult with the Christians because they generally just tend to ignore me. But yeah

2020-03-15 15:02:54 UTC

"christians"

2020-03-15 15:03:00 UTC

Oh.

2020-03-15 15:03:24 UTC

I wanted to read about Hermeticism because I learned it was a continuation of the Egyptian religion.

2020-03-15 15:03:34 UTC

sorta

2020-03-15 15:03:47 UTC

not the religion as a whole but the philosohpy

2020-03-15 15:03:48 UTC

From what I can gather it's a Greek system based on Babylonian and Egyptian metaphysics

2020-03-15 15:04:13 UTC

Oh, is that what metaphysics is? I simply called it theology.

2020-03-15 15:04:16 UTC

greek and egyptian paganism are quite similar because the greeks ruled egypt for quite a long time

2020-03-15 15:04:20 UTC

It's a magical framework that is built on the presupposition that we were created by a God that loves us and wants us to create.

2020-03-15 15:04:33 UTC

Yes, the Ptolemaic period.

2020-03-15 15:05:34 UTC

I've read magic is part of Hermeticism. Is that how it is practiced? I think there is a difference between the ancient and modern Hermeticism.

2020-03-15 15:06:30 UTC

@Greg Noir The difference being secular science was divorced from theology. Principally Hermetic philosophy lines up with quantum physics

2020-03-15 15:07:01 UTC

I'll read on these articles.

2020-03-15 15:08:39 UTC

Perception affects the superposition of objects in reality. There also seems to be non local observer dependence on super positions as well which implies reality is cognitive

2020-03-15 15:10:54 UTC

Here's the basics of hermeticism from the perspective of the Kybalion (the actual Hermetic texts are known as the Corpus Hermeticum"

2020-03-15 15:12:51 UTC

I've got a library of books on this stuff that I'll send your way

2020-03-15 15:12:52 UTC

Ah, this is what you mean by the physics?

2020-03-15 15:13:04 UTC

This is a very simplified version of it, but essentially

2020-03-15 15:13:27 UTC

It is a way of understanding life through a set of laws then.

2020-03-15 15:14:57 UTC

Essentially, you'd be surprised how many of the "Islamic scientists" who muslims hold up as testament to their scientific achievements actually were hermeticists.

2020-03-15 15:16:04 UTC

I learned in HS that much of Greek philosophy was preserved by Muslims and brought to Europe by trade. Before Mohammed there were the Mandaeans, a Gnostic religion still existing in present day Iraq.

2020-03-15 15:18:50 UTC

Now you've given me something to look up, I had never heard of this group before, though I am familiar with gnostics. I find it interesting that they still maintain the title system of rabbi though

2020-03-15 15:21:20 UTC

I find it interesting that they integrated baptism as a ritual. I took a quick glance at their main holy book, Ginza Rba, and it seems to be some metaphysical polytheism in which their gods embody aspects of the spiritual world.

2020-03-15 15:31:34 UTC

>The name 'Mandaean' is said to come from the Aramaic manda meaning "knowledge", as does Greek gnosis
>According to most scholars, Mandaeaism originated sometime in the first three centuries AD, in either southwestern Mesopotamia or the Syro-Palestinian area.[6] However, some scholars take the view that Mandaeanism is older and dates from pre-Christian times.[7]
ok epic
