Even if they were an ethnic term, South Slavs' genetic is very different from the Northern Slavs' genetic, since the Northern ones have mixed with Nordic, Germanic, even Asian people, and the Southern ones have mixed with Illyrians, Italians, Albanians, Greeks, Turks and Arabs. So yeah, comparing the current genetic status of Bosnians to the current genetic status of Russians would be illogical.

Therefore, religion played a huge role into the genetic development of 21st century Southern Slavs. So yes, they are darker than the average Slavic person, congratulations. That doesn't mean that Bosniaks aren't Slavs. After all, today, all of us are mixed, and especially the people originating from the Balkans.

And as I mentioned earlier, sure, to be a Slav you have to be white and such, an African American can't randomly declare himself a Slav because he knows how to speak Russian... But it's PARTIALLY dependant on biological and physical status.
