but immigration is way up and violent crimes are way down

2018-08-10 03:19:56 UTC

you can look at the stats

2018-08-10 03:20:14 UTC

Correlation does not equal causation, especially not in this case.

2018-08-10 03:20:56 UTC

1) Because as I said most immigrants are innocent people looking for a better life and 2) They are a small portion of crimes any time at any point in history simply because they're a small portion of the population.

2018-08-10 03:21:19 UTC

okay so we have a tiny portion of immigrants commiting crimes

2018-08-10 03:21:29 UTC

thats unavoidable

2018-08-10 03:21:29 UTC

Just because they're innocent doesn't mean they aren't selfish for breaking the law to the chagrin of people who come here legally and become good citizens.

2018-08-10 03:21:48 UTC

It is illegal for a reason. We need strong borders. We're a country.

2018-08-10 03:22:14 UTC

People should not be allowed to come in without being vetted. Saying they don't commit crimes is not reason to be against a border wall.

2018-08-10 03:22:24 UTC

10% of Mexico's population has emigrated to the US.

2018-08-10 03:22:24 UTC

So if we just make legal immigration easier, and they crossed legally, everything would be fine?

2018-08-10 03:22:27 UTC

This is not a small problem.

2018-08-10 03:22:31 UTC

*they all cross legally

2018-08-10 03:22:39 UTC

Yes.

2018-08-10 03:23:34 UTC

what benefits do illegal immigrants get, that legal immigrants don't get?

2018-08-10 03:23:52 UTC

I don't get your meaning.

2018-08-10 03:24:27 UTC

When you emigrate illegally for the sole reason that there are more immigrants than we could take in legally you risk being turned away, denied citizenship, etc. and this is a real fear for immigrants.

2018-08-10 03:24:45 UTC

So if we just increase the number of visas and staffers for background checks, then all illegal immigrants would just cross legally, because the process will be quicker.

2018-08-10 03:24:54 UTC

So there aren't benefits. It's a matter of expedience to not go through the citizenship process and fear of being rejected.

2018-08-10 03:25:09 UTC

why build a wall when we can increase the rate of legal immigration?

2018-08-10 03:25:43 UTC

Because I don't think we should be bringing in thousands of illiterate poorly educated people who don't speak English and as it stands are not encouraged at all to assimilate.

2018-08-10 03:25:50 UTC

I would turn most away.

2018-08-10 03:25:55 UTC

I only want intelligent skilled workers.

2018-08-10 03:26:28 UTC

My parents were intelligent skilled workers fleeing post-Soviet dirt poor Eastern Europe.

2018-08-10 03:26:35 UTC

My family assimilated and we all speak English

2018-08-10 03:26:42 UTC

This is the kind of immigration we need.

2018-08-10 03:27:10 UTC

Yeah, i guess i just don't value "culture" like you do. I could care less if someone is uneducated or can't speak english

2018-08-10 03:27:33 UTC

i really don't care if my neighbor is retarded

2018-08-10 03:27:37 UTC

Citizenship processing is an assimilation process.

2018-08-10 03:28:01 UTC

All people in a country should share basic values and ideology if not a shared history and race.

2018-08-10 03:28:11 UTC

This is what makes a country a nation instead of a plot of land.

2018-08-10 03:28:45 UTC

What values of mexican culture are so different from american? other than language

2018-08-10 03:29:26 UTC

American values are rooted in Lockean liberal thought and religious freedom. Not so much a lack of shared values as a lack of emphasis on those in Mexico.

2018-08-10 03:29:33 UTC

Cultural identity is important as well.

2018-08-10 03:29:41 UTC

Americans should have a shared cultural identity.

2018-08-10 03:29:58 UTC

Foremost and most superficially is a shared language.

2018-08-10 03:30:18 UTC

Oof

2018-08-10 03:30:21 UTC

The standardization of language is credited with the creation of the nation-state in the 19th century.

2018-08-10 03:30:32 UTC

10% of France spoke French in the 18th century.
