However the USA has lots of guns now so banning them isn't possible.
Why get rid of them? What about self defense?
Self defense can be done with other things then guns, over here we don't have any guns and people don't constantly get harmed or killed by criminals.
So long as guns + mental illness exist, they can't fix the violence.
Such as?
What do you propose can stand in the role of a gun for someone protecting themselves against a mission oriented attacker?
What do you mean by mission oriented attacker?
What mission?
It's a term of art. A mission oriented attacker is one who possesses a clear goal, and is set on fulfilling that goal through the execution of the crime they're about to commit.
A rapist, a murderer, a dedicated mugger, etc.
Tasers, batons, something less lethal is obvious as a gun substitute
What blake said.
Tasers?
Things like pepperspray too
You mean those things that stop working the second someone is wearing heavy clothing?
Of course you can't compare it with the current situation where people actually have guns.
And whose barbs don't always make contact to begin with?
I know it's a pussy kind of weapon but its better
In my case it would be way more likely that your attacker doesn't have a gun.
Tasers are barely suitable even against unarmed attackers in light clothing.
Like I said, doesn't have to be just a taser
Pepper spray is reliant on pain compliance, and straight up does not affect a surprising percentage of the population on a physiological level.
Same as tear gas.
And if you've got someone in an altered state, they can function whether you've dosed them or not.
Hand me a baseball bat, I'll fuck a bitch up, and though this is on the assumption that the attacker has no gun
Pepper spray also usually results in contamination of the person using it as well.
You don't carry a baseball bat with you everywhere, though.
Trunk of my car
You're always in your car?
But then again, this is the only possible use
You never walk to or from your car?
And you can teleport the bat into your hands?
No, I understand that I'm not always near it
Does this hold up to all the gun deaths?
Public education on self defense would be help too
Absolutely. The casualty rate is of literally no concern to me. More people die every year from falling off of ladders. Three times as many people are beaten to death with hammers. Several times more die of the flu in a single season.
Even then, If I'm honest I would prefer a person getting robbed to a person getting killed.
To be honest, if someone pulled a knife on me or my fiancee, and demanded my wallet, I'd blow them the fuck away if I didn't have a single dollar in it.
Those two can go hand in hand sadly
The point isn't being robbed.
