It's actually quite one-sided contrary to what you might think. You can't negotiate with people that aren't even willing to listen to the proposal

The democrats logic is, if they give in and let Trump have his wall, every single time Trump will want anything done he will shut down the government until the dems give in

And fly away to other countries for a whole week.

Its the same logic as to way we don't give terrorists what they ask for when they get hostages

Since they will then try and get more hostages since they know they will get what they want

Trump will then try to get something done, it will be unpopular and won't get passed in congress, so Trump refuses to sign anything shutting down the gov until he gets what he wants
