2) To try and include more people who aren't feminists, though I could not find any myself annoyingly.

2019-01-14 10:41:02 UTC

3) To maybe cut down some of the off-topic stuff to shorten it

2019-01-14 10:41:46 UTC

Some of these are mutually exclusive, but I'm not holding myself to any of them

2019-01-14 22:29:23 UTC

@Men Are Human I had a little read through it mate. At the start when you talk about experiencing misandry, I would have thought it would be talked about in the context of men experiencing it, not women who feel the hatred themselves, no? Also since it's discussing misandry I would try and go into the fact that misandry is often not recognised as existing, at least in a pharagraph. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had to actually add the word misandry to my phones/computers dictionary to stop it autocorrecting to something else.

2019-01-15 00:05:48 UTC

Misandry does make me sad

2019-01-15 00:07:45 UTC

Thinking about it you could possibly add the misogyny/misandry controversy when adding it to hate crimes.

@InsaneCaterpilla The intro is actually something I'm thinking of totally scrapping

2019-01-15 22:13:36 UTC

I think it would sound stronger without mentioning the handmaid's tale

2019-01-15 22:17:42 UTC

I like the first two paragraphs. While the 3rd paragraph does put this into perspective, I'd actually scrap just that connection because we really are talking about the crazies in this one. If that is left out it would end up emphasizing the entertainment-at-crazy/evil aspect...at least until you get into Emily McCombs, which brings us right back to ground-level serious in what feels to me a really well-written way.

2019-01-15 22:19:25 UTC

So then the intro would read something like:

2019-01-15 22:19:27 UTC

"Extreme Misandry is the absolute hatred, contempt, and disgust of men and boys. It is a hatred so severe that it simply cannot be compared to anything but racism or homophobia. People who experience it often feel the need to control men, dominate them, belittle them.... or wipe them off the face of the Earth.
Yes, that's right - the total genocide of men is something that has been seriously proposed by academics numerous times. This genocide, or rather gendercide, is an expression of hatred so profound that all but the most militant man-haters baulk at it.

What follows is a short, and insane, history of actual academics and public figures putting forth the idea of a male 'gendercide' as a way of 'cleaning up the filth' of the human race."

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I will do

Hey <@&524226120661336076> I've been sent this study by a feminist and I'm wondering what you all think. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3743119/

2019-01-17 09:12:40 UTC

Their claim is that it proves that: "Because of pervasive myths like (men being arrested on the spot because they are abused) women are now told not to mention dv in the family court because of this notion that women will lie about it to gain the court's favour when the truth is that dv lies are miniscule and men lie about it just as often as women do"

This was in response to this citation: https://t.co/v9Tkrf7ZYm

2019-01-17 09:13:51 UTC

Thoughts?

2019-01-17 09:27:09 UTC

I know for a fact that men have been arrested when they call the police regarding abuse

2019-01-17 09:32:46 UTC

So it's not a pervasive myth, and I'd like to know what part of any reliable study indicates that

She's literally just saying "this news thing is not a source."

I avoid most social media like the plague

2019-01-18 05:25:58 UTC

Bwhahahaha

2019-01-18 05:26:00 UTC

"Because of pervasive myths like (men being arrested on the spot because they are abused) women are now told not to mention dv in the family court because of this notion that women will lie about it to gain the court's favour when the truth is that dv lies are miniscule and men lie about it just as often as women do"

2019-01-18 05:26:02 UTC

yeah right

2019-01-18 05:27:40 UTC

No way are DV lies miniscule when 25% of all divorces include allegations.

2019-01-18 05:28:09 UTC

And not when lawyers are being taught and telling women to claim DV as part of a divorce

2019-01-18 05:29:31 UTC

Also the study you cite there is silly: "IPV, as defined as physical, emotional, and/or sexual violence by her husband during their relationship"

2019-01-18 05:29:47 UTC

sorry, IPV defined as emotional violence?

2019-01-18 05:31:24 UTC

And the entire study is a survey that got an insignificant number of wives who went through and or caused messy divorces to tell their story and reported it from their point of view?

2019-01-18 05:31:40 UTC

n=19

2019-01-18 05:31:44 UTC

not quantitative

2019-01-18 05:31:47 UTC

..

2019-01-18 05:31:57 UTC

"Mothers often turned to family court for assistance in setting boundaries to keep children safe, but found that family court did not respond in ways they believed protected their children. Conversely, when women turned to the justice system for restraining orders or called the police for help against IPV, they generally found the justice system responsive."

2019-01-18 05:32:28 UTC

Yeah, how the DV trick works is that you deal with the criminal/civil system first, and then return to family court with the restraining order

2019-01-18 05:32:36 UTC

no shit sherlock

2019-01-18 05:34:30 UTC

"When women make allegations of IPV or express concerns that fathers will harm children, the court often views them as obstructing the court process and the father’s right to have a relationship with their children " -- because family court doesn't seem to really check facts unfortunately, and because that claim unfortunately often is simply precisely what the court believes it to be thanks to the lawyer's advice and the inability of the court to sanction liars
