I'm guessing they rule the families though?

2019-01-14 10:20:43 UTC

most people don't really follow the tradition anymore anyway, just angry Nana's that don't approve of women doing anything else then taking care of the family xD

2019-01-14 10:21:27 UTC

yeah, women do rule the family, hence the joke that men make the rules but only if their wives say they can.

2019-01-14 10:23:18 UTC

That;s really interesting. Could you put that together into a quote I can use on a future page about Patriarchy Theory?

2019-01-14 10:26:13 UTC

maybe in the morning remind me, I an kind of plastered right now xD

2019-01-14 10:26:58 UTC

dad and I have been celebrating selling the land -^u^-

2019-01-14 10:28:45 UTC

Lol

2019-01-14 10:29:00 UTC

You seem to be plastered a lot. XD

2019-01-14 10:29:15 UTC

Sorry, that seems rude

2019-01-14 10:29:18 UTC

I'm an alcoholic is what I do xD

2019-01-14 10:30:15 UTC

but together we polished off a bottle of Rosé and now he's in bed and I'm on the rum

2019-01-14 10:31:09 UTC

Awww, I kinda worry about that. Lol

2019-01-14 10:33:11 UTC

so does my dad, it's like I have issues or something, I know it's a thing I need to work on in future, but right now while life is still shit it's a bit difficult to just abandon things that make you feel good.

2019-01-14 10:35:00 UTC

probably not a discussion for debate though xD

2019-01-14 10:43:03 UTC

Maybe not

2019-01-14 10:43:28 UTC

Have you ever heard of the film whale Rider? It's kind of about the slow death of a culture just like that.

2019-01-14 10:44:11 UTC

yeah, I've seen it, good movie

2019-01-14 10:44:52 UTC

One of my favorites. Amazingly memorable

2019-01-14 10:45:55 UTC

sadly culture is something that is naturally lost to time, and I feel like globalization has had a hand in speeding up that process.

2019-01-14 10:46:49 UTC

Yeah. Me too.

2019-01-14 10:47:07 UTC

There's been some great traditions and cultures lost to it

2019-01-14 10:47:28 UTC

I think all non-Western culture is slowly being eaten away

2019-01-14 10:47:48 UTC

Of course, we're getting changed too

2019-01-14 10:47:54 UTC

That didn't come out right

2019-01-14 10:48:20 UTC

But our culture is kinda over-riding everyone else's

2019-01-14 10:48:40 UTC

Then again, we also did away with some reeeeeally nasty stuff

2019-01-14 10:48:40 UTC

I think a lot of people who scream out "cultural appropriation" do so in an attempt to preserve such cultures, but not sharing culture will do the opposite and make it more likely to die out.

2019-01-14 10:48:54 UTC

That's possibly true

2019-01-14 10:50:03 UTC

I think everywhere needs to revitalize the best parts of their traditional culture or we'll see a day when it's all ancient history and you won't be able to tell any culture from any other

2019-01-14 10:50:19 UTC

Ever seen a modern Bollywood film?

2019-01-14 10:50:34 UTC

They basically look like Hollywood films, but cheaper.

2019-01-14 10:50:46 UTC

They aren't distinct anymore

2019-01-14 10:51:24 UTC

you could say the same for a lot of Asian film, used to be very distinct but not as much anymore

2019-01-14 10:52:14 UTC

even in games, a lot of old school JRPGs are being lost to more western gaming trends.

2019-01-14 10:54:13 UTC

less turn based, linear with a tight narrative and more open world real time with a more "do what you want"attitude.

2019-01-14 12:29:58 UTC

Yeah, I get that. I'm not so worried about the rpgs. More the stuff that is only really preserved in cultural festivals

2019-01-18 10:32:04 UTC

Today's topic will be "what do you make of this study that looks suspiciously like a bunch of lies?"

2019-01-18 10:34:27 UTC

Ever if somebody did a study on the prevalence of rape fantasies in women hmmm

2019-01-18 11:02:35 UTC

Ummmm where's the actual study? It just links to an abstract

2019-01-18 11:17:57 UTC

So, the article actually *is* the study... The abstract is just what they want to say about wording (people think different things when you change the wording of something and possibly the meaning, there's a shocker, anyone remember when they changed the wording to 'would you have sex with a woman who had a drink and counted men as rapists who said yes?)

They are just saying what they want things to mean. I doubt they've given the specific wording of the questions, nor is the site thecut.com reputable as a study source
