reddit /u/Zamop posted a new link in /r/MensRights
Australia to ban people who are convicted of violence against women and children. - https://redd.it/aws53i

It's fairly typical that violence against men isn't seen to be as damaging as violence against women. Sadly, it's much harder to convict women of the domestic violence they commit, and some innocent male victims will be included in this ban because of the inability to see women as abusers. It is 100% unacceptable to be basing policy on sexism.

2019-03-03 18:32:36 UTC

Yep.

2019-03-03 22:35:44 UTC

Yeah. I've just been looking through a potential article about this for Men Are Human that goes through some classic male experiences with DV hotlines. E.g. - "They just laughed and hung up the phone" and "they said I was trying to manipulate them to cover up my own abuse of her..."

2019-03-03 22:37:58 UTC

There have definitely been some research done into that.. I recall seeing a pic of something along the lines of 'out of those 10, 4/10 would treat him as the abuser, 3/10 would laugh at him. 3 would help'. Something like that

2019-03-03 22:53:56 UTC

Yeah it was in the news, though Gen thinks it's bad to go with these self-reported things. Some men really are abusers, after all.

2019-03-03 22:57:49 UTC

Eh, I don't think some men being abusers should be a factor at all when a man calls a line aimed at helping victims of domestic violence. Pointing out they wouldn't help them doesn't say that there aren't abusive men at all

2019-03-03 22:59:41 UTC

I can understand the reliability of the self reporting to be an issue. But not because of that

2019-03-03 23:00:59 UTC

Oh, they just meant with the studies not the phone lines. Personally, I think that only really obvious frauds should get turned away from those lines.

2019-03-03 23:03:23 UTC

I think it should be treated the same way as a suicide hotline. Sure, someone might be playing it up or 'trolling' so to speak, but it's not worth taking the chance about

2019-03-03 23:04:09 UTC

And to turn away callers or assume they are being disingenuous just because they are men trying to get help is severely disturbing

2019-03-04 09:50:53 UTC

It is very much so

2019-03-05 07:36:59 UTC

Anyone wanna join in the voice chat?

2019-03-05 07:37:22 UTC

I wanna talk about men's rights and mgtow.

2019-03-05 09:31:12 UTC

Ah, I have work soon @James kirk , but if more people want to get in on this maybe we could make it a regular scheduled thing?

2019-03-05 09:31:40 UTC

I'm happy to make the voice chat more prominent on the Discord if people would like too.

2019-03-05 11:43:48 UTC

I have work soon too

2019-03-05 11:51:22 UTC

I've moved the voice channel up into the main area so it's more convenient. Hopefully we can get some good stuff going. If anyone wants to invite people to talk on the voice chat or in the Discord generally - please do!

2019-03-05 12:45:41 UTC

2019-03-05 15:36:43 UTC

I have no idea what that conversation is about

2019-03-05 15:43:40 UTC

Talking about tampon tax and it derailed into my point about condoms and horny teenagers.
"Uncontrollable libido?"
"No."
"Not my fault if you can't keep your dick in your pants"
"You have a left hand for a reason"
*then that happens*

2019-03-05 15:46:45 UTC

I honestly don't care if tampons are free. On that note I would argue that razors should also be free if they are, though, since in order to be considered for jobs and things you often need to be clean shaven.

2019-03-05 17:41:46 UTC

I think that saying men should be clean shaven and so on is actually pretty sexist. It's a minor issue, but we should deal with it really.

2019-03-05 17:42:21 UTC

I don't have a beard myself, but I think men should be allowed to have one.

2019-03-07 00:59:34 UTC

I support the idea of tampons and such being free.

2019-03-07 01:08:44 UTC

I have facial hair

2019-03-07 01:09:03 UTC

I'm not necessarily opposed to free.tampons

2019-03-07 01:09:52 UTC

I tend to.shy away from the government involvement in providing things for free but I guess tampons and birth control wouldn't be the end of.the world

2019-03-07 03:04:30 UTC

yeah, it's ridiculous that anyone thinks the MRM would be "against tampons" for any reason. just goes to show the gross misconceptions people have

2019-03-07 03:20:15 UTC

Oh that's what that was about? Someone was saying we hate tampons ?

2019-03-07 03:25:28 UTC

the strongest negative reaction to campaigns for free sanitary pads is usually a hatred of tampons yes

2019-03-07 03:25:30 UTC

'Tampons are tools of the patriarchy! Women who have them are being raped! They should not be ashamed and let it flow free!'

2019-03-07 03:25:39 UTC

oh

2019-03-07 03:25:43 UTC

^ would not be surprised if that was an actual thing

2019-03-07 03:26:04 UTC

I meant not a lot of old male politician don't understand menstrual cycles and think that sanitary pads are somehow not required

2019-03-07 03:26:43 UTC

old male politicians can be embarassingly ignorant to how the female reproductive cycle works

2019-03-07 03:27:05 UTC

its unfortunately ready fuel for the most extreme feminist messages

2019-03-07 03:38:48 UTC

I'm not against many things that I am against the government funding

2019-03-07 03:39:32 UTC

For instance here in PA the turnpike pays millions each quarter to pennDOT who then largely spends the money in Septa which is the local mass transit system
